[TechPowerUp]Steam Launches Hit PC Games from EA

Thread Starter

Valve today announced Spore, Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, Mass Effect, Need for Speed Undercover and EA SPORTS FIFA Manager 2009 are available now to gamers in the United States and Canada via Steam, a leading platform for PC games and digital content with over 15 million accounts around the world.

In the coming weeks, Mirror's Edge, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3, and Dead Space, will be added to the catalog of EA's titles available via Steam.
"EA is one of the industry's largest publishers," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "The EA titles coming to Steam this holiday include some this year's top PC titles."

"We are pleased to extend our holiday titles to gamers worldwide via Steam -- a revolutionary technology that is one of the game industry's most successful digital distribution services," said John Pleasants, President, Global Publishing & Chief Operating Officer.

As much as I dislike EA, its nice to see Steam get EA's catalog of games. Should help Valve a lot

*Edit* I hope EA lets Steam uses it's DRM instead of SecureRom or whatever is in their current games.

Valve, why so much hatred to Europe? First the currency conversion and now only North America gets these games. I'm starting to get really disappointed. =(

Why not for Europe? Do they not want to make as much money?

They think regionalization works in the digital age. I'm not sure what exactly makes them think that, if they were lobotomized at birth or something equivalent but it's completely idiotic. No wonder people download warez instead.

I said a long time ago, that video game coalition or whatever it is, should convince valve to let steam go and turn it into a not-for-profit company that all the video game companies can use. That would work wonders for the PC community.

Correction: Should help EA a lot, valve doesn't need help

And the only DRM on those games is steam itself. Proof here.

As well as valve has done things for gamers everyone must be aware that they are still a business with a goal of making money. Which they should not be faulted for.
