PS3 and Windows Media Center?

Thread Starter
Like the heading denotes, can the PS3 be used as a Windows Media Center 'Extender' -- like the 360 can? I'm thinking about buying a PS3 and would also like to use it as a Media Center "Extender" for my home theater and big screen (if at all possible) -- to stream videos/music/pictures etc. from my computer, onto it -- via its connection to my home network.

EDIT: Basically, run a cord from my router into the PS3, and then allow the PS3 to be recognized as a 'network device' on my computer -- thus allowing me to access my computer from the PS3 (via Windows Media Center) -- ultimately being able to play/stream media files from my computer onto my big screen (that the PS3 is connected to). Perhaps an over-simplication, but you get the idea (?). The 360 accomplishes this, but can the PS3?

yes it can

Yeah, I use it as one. It can play and download music and videos straight from your other computers on the network.

In fact, mine shows up as just that, a Windows Media Extender, whenever it's turned on

Does it actually function as a Vindows media center extender, does it play the recorded tv? and can you stream tv through it? Can you use it to control the media center applications? Like tell it to record shows?

Doubtful, because its interface is a lot like the PSP's; it acts more like a file browser.

It's my brother's, and he just got it, so I haven't messed with it too much.

the link is to use WMP 11 as a file serv.

i've used WMP before, and it works a lot better than Winamp ORB.

but honestly i'd suggest using TVersity if you use anything to stream your files from your computer to your ps3. i do it, and it works great.

Another vote for Tversity but oddly it was the only one that would work for me.
