I'm sure there are lots...I hope there aren't any on OCN
Why not, its like saying everyone that knows jack about pc's shouldn't come here.
actually, it should be that they visit this place to realise they bought something they didn't need aswell as learning that their next purache can be alot cheaper based on what they use it for.

Unless you were joking, then ignore everything i just said

Thats exactly what I was hinting at. That anyone here, is already informed to some degree about which processor is overkill and which is sufficient for their needs. Most OCN members aren't n00bs!

Ha, lots of people in this thread condemning Phenom II for the "high" voltage it takes to reach 4GHz? Ha, excuse me but last time I checked Core i7 needs nearly 1.5v ALSO just to reach that, and that's with their Extreme 940 @ $1,030. It would last 2 weeks, then crap out at that voltage on any 45nm Intel quad. We'll see how Phenom II handles that voltage @ 4.0GHz, and for a fraction of the price.

Quads are awesome, just at the moment they aren't of much use to everyone. Dual Cores, at least over for another year are more than enough. I plan on buying Phenom II and also getting another cheap build to overclock the hell out of a Dual Core untill it pukes on itself. Possibly just E8400 with better stepping than my early revision, and sell the one i have. With the cheaper prices, i see allot of use for them.

But more cores is ALWAYS good Personally, watching 4 Cores @ 100% during 3d animation renders is a sick pleasure of mine

I can't wait to get this chip.. Its going to be such a pleasure going back to AMD

I think a lot of people are looking at this the wrong way. I have said this before on other threads, but I will repeat it again anyway. The Phenom II will always be compared to the core2quads for performance, price, cooling, ect. People who want a phenom are generally clinging to DDR2 memory and older chipsets that still provide enough performance for today. All the people who got i7, congratulations you are ahead of the curve.

But for people like me and most others deneb is exremely exciting when compared to older core2 technology. A Q9550 will have a hard time overclocking from 2.83ghz to 4.0ghz to. Looks like the phenom and the Q9550 will both probably get up to 3.8ghz fairly easy, and a good chip with an experienced overclock will get to 4. Even the Q9 extreme processors can have trouble getting to 4ghz stable with air. Temperatures, from the looks of it, will probably be about the same.

It is really the other factors that start to make Phenom II look like the next best thing. For instance, compare the following features on two prominent intel motherboards to AMD board:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131292

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131255
-----------
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131339

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131284

And that comparison is very conservative....

The unlocked multiplier on this chip means they will pair well with any DDR2 memory, of any value. Upgrades are simple and painless, with more feature rich features. I can have a top of the line Phenom system for a much reduced price to the chipset and CPU, where I couldn't even touch that with intel. That is what will make Deneb a slam dunk with the gaming community and number crunchers alike. HP, Acer, and the like will start marketing fairly cheap 3.0ghz quad cores to the layman as well. G skill and kingston will still be producing their much cheaper DDR2 memory. The stock heatsink is even better with the phenoms, it is a win win right now for AMD. This is going to be a big chip guys. Just watch. This thing will not perform even close to i7 but it doesn't have to. It never really did. But I will be willing to bet that it will sell far better then any i7 from here tell next summer when the market gets interesting again.

1.5v? The i7 920 is at 4.02Ghz w/1.35vcore... Unless I'm reading something wrong here.

Its the 965 Extreme thats a $1000, not the 940
