[Engadget] - First Blu-ray Disc/DVD hybrid announced in Japan

It sure took long enough to happen, but one of HD DVD's biggest benefits has finally made it over to the Blu-ray side. Yep, we're talking about a Blu-ray / DVD hybrid disc, with a single-layer of Blu on one side and a standard DVD on the very same side (as in, not a "flipper" disc). Not surprisingly, the action's going down first in Japan, with Code Blue emergency helicopter doctor Blu-ray BOX (yes, seriously) as the first hybrid title. There's no word on when (or if) this technology will make it to US soil, but the sooner the better -- nothing like a little inbuilt backwards compatibility to ease the mind.
I decided to post it in the hardware news because it is related to computers.

Well, it is a disk...so it is hardware.

This is great news. Maybe I'll be able to watch my blurays at friends houses now without dragging my PS3 all over.

So basically instead of stores selling both dvd's and blu-rays, they can just sell one disk that does both, that is pure action.

Hi Gamer, although the search function doesn't seem to work at times (or most of the time), when news is already a day old, it's probably been posted already.

Don't stress, I've made the same mistake before, be sure to scroll through at least the first and second page to be sure though, next time.

I just usually check the first page. I should check the second page more often aswell.

Thanks for the heads up

That was one of the reasons I thought HD-DVD had it right, DVD on one side and HD-DVD on the other. People can start building an HD collection before they even bought the players. Though they were poorly produce, I have several that don't work well, because the glue between them would dry and crack. I thought people were crazy when they suggested you "boil" your disc lol.
