Name me one modern Quad GPU set up which works without a number of issues?

I would have to say the closest competitor is the 4870x2 which is also far from perfect from what ive been reading.

thanks all. i am tradding my 9800 for a 3870x2 and was planning on getting another one to cf. but after looking at the reviews, i am quite scepital on this setup. in most game a 3870x2 cf set up give next to no gain or a proformance hit. i was hoping since new drivers were released that the situation would of change for the better.
i know nsca has a 3870x2 cf set up and hope he see this and gives some insight, or some one else that has this setup.

I don't have them anymore, but I'll see if I can dig some up.
Any benches that I find will have been with older drivers, drivers are much improved since I ran them.

These cards are coming up to nearly a year old, but when released were the fastest single slot GPU around .. so if you are looking at buying one and then moving to CF-X then you would be better looking at a single 4870x2 .. over all these single cards are the equivalent of 2x38 series... such is the way technology moves on up.

Quadfire isn't that great but trifire is where you will see the greatest gains after that not much. If you pair that with another 3870 you will get great performance compared to two 3870x2's.
Here is a tri-fire review. Since 8.12 drivers performance for me at least has increased I average 80 -90 fps at 1900 x 1200 on max settings minus aa and af of course and hold a good 65 - 85 fps on the far cry 2 benching program with all high settings DX10.

Or... just spend the extra money on a 4870 or 4870X2.

If you look around you can get a single 3870 for under a hundred I scored one for $88 dollars and if he is making a trade for the 3870x2 then well he is spending under a hundred bucks and getting great performance vs. spending $230 for a 4870 or $489 for an X2. It all depends on how much money he wants to blow.
