Ok. I have the latest version of Core temp- and it shows only 2 cores In msconfig under adv boot setting - I can still only select 2 cores there is no 4th or 3rd core there

Run 4 instances of prime95, each assigned to a specific core in taskmanager. Monitor core loads--if they all load up near 100% (or I guess each core would show 25%), then all is fine, and I'd ignore the other programs showing only 2 cores.

Even when I run msconfig and want to set vista to boot with all my cores - it only gives me 2 cores instead of 4?

Can anyone help me please, maby there is a setting in the bios or something or my Q6600 is faulty , I also did a BIOS flash but it did not help.
The specifications on your board doesn't state the support of Intel Quad Cores, only "Supports Intel® Core™ 2 multi-core and 45nm processors to FSB 1600 (O.C.) "

Sorry bud.

Yes it does: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2605

There has to be a setting in your bios somewhere for enabling the cores, go through it again and make sure to look everywhere. And download the bios from there if you haven't already and update them with THOSE ones.

Why would, under the specifications, have a list of compatibility and just 'mistakenly' leave out the Intel Quad series?

*Edit* I do see the CPU Support List there but I'd be more likely to go by the manufacture specs rather than a randomly generated list such as that.

That IS the manufacturer's specs!

In any case this isn't a mobo or BIOS problem, it's 100% Windows being stupid.

Okay then, I'd say if its not registering the other 2 cores e.g. #3 and #4 I'd say a BIOs setting. No reason for software to not recognize if.

Search all of your BIOs settings, you'll see it eventually. Hard to miss.

Last I checked, the q6600 is a multi-core Core2 processor...

Gigabyte says that Core 2 quads are supported: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ProductID=2605

OP--it could also be that 2 of your q6600's cores are dead. Where did you get the cpu?

EDIT--posted too slow, above issues addressed. sorry!
