HDMI over CAT6 - Working @1080p *PICS* - Page 3

post #21 of 51
Not to be a downer but...

Cat6 = 250Mhz

HDMI = 340Mhz

That's quite a jump in bandwidth. Plus ethernet cable lacks sheilding.

Category 6a (or Augmented Category 6) operates at frequencies up to 550 MHz—twice that of Cat 6

This is the cable I put down

cat6 has thicker wires too......plus yeah the shielding sucks........as for signal loss try this http://www.techorium.com/hdmi-transm...eet-p-491.html

Look guys, all this sheilding stuff is extremely overrated. Sure, shielding helps but its not really going to do much if the CAT6a he is using has good quality, high gauge wiring.

I mean he might even be using sheilded CAT6.

The proof will be in the pudding, when the cable gets laid and the system turned on.

Nice pic, looking forward to see how this turns out.

Sheilding is not over rated. Without it there can and more than likely will be interference and parasitic capacitance.

Back with more pics

I didn't get the system up and running as getting the cable throught the walls took longer than I expected.

Here is some pics of the progress I have made

All the cables nicely labled up! (There are two runs for each HDMI over CAT6)

The floorboards lifted before the cable was installed

The cable now installed (Running these cables was a complete arse as I was trying to be carefull not to bend the cable too much). Dad helped with this.

Here is a close up of the cable once it was layed. (Just need to hoover the wood chipings up now lol)

I should be getting the tool for terminating the cable tomorrow so I can hook it all up and find out if it will work.
