Help getting Q9550 stable

Thread Starter
Hello overclockers, first post here.

I just bought a Q9550 (C1 stepping). Ive having troubles getting it to even POST at 3.4. I was able to get it to 3.2 fine, passed 12 hours of prime blend. But I cannot for the life of me get it to POST at 3.4. Kinda troubled here, and im pretty new to OC'ing just FYI. If I can get any help or pointers that would be great!

System info:
Q9550
ASUS P5N-D 750i SLi
4GB (2x2gb) DDR2 OCZ Reapers (PC2 6400)
74GB Raptor + 640GB Cav
9800GTX+ @ 802|1958|1312
SB X-Fi XtremeGamer
OCZ GameXStream 700w
Vista Premium 64-Bit

BIOS info (for trying @ 3.4)
Memory Clock mode- Linked
Memory ratio - Sync
FSB - 1600
Memory timing- 4-4-4-12 T2

Vcore- Ive tried 1.200 to 1.400
DRAM- 2.150
HT voltage- auto (bios doesnt say what voltage auto is, not sure how to check these.)
NB voltage- auto
SB voltage- auto

Mutiplier- x8.5
Execute Disable bit- Enabled
Virtualizable tech- Enabled
Limit CPUID MaxVal- Disabled
Enhanced C1- Disabled
Speedstep- Disabled

Any help/tips would be much appreciated... thanks again.

Will your memory do 4-4-4-12 at 800? You didn't list it. Please fill in your system specs as completely as you can.

Yes, 4-4-4-12 800Mhz. Could it be my memory timing? Should I lossen them? Unlink?

Well I got to log into windows @ 3.4.
Memory Clock mode- Unlinked
FSB - 1600 (400x8.5 = 3.4)
Memory timing- 5-5-5-18 T2 @ 800mhz

Vcore- 1.34 (CPUZ/EVEREST)
DRAM- 2.150
HT voltage- 1.34
NB voltage- 1.44
SB voltage- auto

Im failing prime fast though, any ideas on to stablize it? Should I give more speed to RAM?

the RAM is probably fine. YOu have a 750i, and I don't have much experience with those. But it looks like your CPU voltage is OK. Maybe you could use a bit more, or tune your GTL references.

Ill give it more juice.. I had a question.. I have my Vcore set in my BIOS @ 1.400 and in CPUZ/Everest it reads it as 1.36.. is CPUZ/Everest reading it wrong? Or is that my vdroop?

Could it be this board that is holding me back from OCing? I hear 750i isnt great at being stable. Would an Asus Maximus Formula (x38) be better performance wise?

thanks!
Nope that's just droop.

If you really want to OC the Q9550, forget the 750i and the Maximus Formula. A whole bunch of people here recently replaced their boards with the GA-EP45-UD3P since it'll take the Q9550 past 4.0GHz on air. I was one of them.

See this epic thread and prepare to
