4870X2 main +8800GT as deticated physics? - Page 2

With that 4870x2 you only have one option even if you went back to XP is to get a Asus/BFG PhysX card. You can mix ATI & Nvidia in XP, but XP will only see 2 GPU's. You could use a single core 4870 and a Nvidia card.

I found an ASUS PHYSX card in my closet the other day, used it when I played GRAW.
Would it be beneficial to add to my gtx 260, or just a waste of time/slot on mobo?

Sure, why not?

It doesn't pull that much power. Like 40-50w max.

What's the benefit of having it, what will it do for me if I'm not using it to game? Sorry I haven't kept up with physics!

A lot better physics in games that support it pretty much.

List of PhysX games.

And here.

he already has a GTX 260 that can do PhysX, is there any benefit from adding a stand alone physX card as well?

In a game that supports PhysX, yes.

Here and here are some benchies showing PhysX done by the CPU vs PhysX on one card vs PhysX on a dedicated card while the main card does graphics.

XP only sees two GPUs? Mine sees three just fine.

Haven't done it in VIsta, but I have ran ATI and nVidia cards together in Xp before. The trick is to install ATI drivers first. Then reboot and install nVidia's drivers. You can manage you displays in ATI's CCC. nVidia control panel will not see ATI cards, but ATI's CCC will see the nVidia card display.
