Friend was having the same problem. The problem with Fallout is that it hates -SOME- of the Quad cores. It's weird because me and my friend both have the exact same processor and I didn't have to do this work around.

Try this if you have a quad core and can only play the game for a bit before crashing:

Got to: My Documents\\My Games\\Fallout3

Find the line:

bUseThreadedAI=0

change it to:

bUseThreadedAI=1

Add another line after it and insert:

iNumHWThreads=2

Shouldn't affect the performance at all, just limits your game to use 2 cores instead of 4. He stopped playing the game because it crashed so much, after this he played hours and eventually got sleepy lol

------
EVERYTHING BELOW THIS IS JUST DIRECTED TOWARD SOUND PROBLEMS.

As for others, if you're running Vista (well I have the problem with Vista Ultimate 64) and you're having sound problems with the radio you can just hit escape a few times and it should come in clear again. There are also numerous ways to fix this, but this one suits me fine (Or atleast until I get my prelude and hopefully that will fix it without crashing).

The problem here is that Vista doesn't use hardware acceleration for sound like XP did, but Alchemy CAN fix it, the problem with my card (Audigy SE) is that it will fix the radio, but it crashes constantly, and even if I do the fix for quads, it still does it. Esc does fix it... but it goes back to crackling after every song change or the dj goes off.

Anyways, enough rambling. Hope I fixed your problems.
