My router died and fried my ethernet port? - Page 3

The one I got was this one. It's an "Extreme Edition", so it says on the box. The chipset comes with a heatsink!!

Those are good decent replacement cards if a nic dies.
should I RMA my board instead? im not sure if any other parts of the board are affected or not

yea i agree, don't bother buying a new mobo, just get a PCI Network Card
and you will have a new ethernet port
that or RMA the motherboard
Well, yes, you should RMA the board. It has a fried Ethernet port, after all!

Thats up to you, Personally I would not bother with it, unless i planned to sell the mobo at some point.

Just get a PCI NIC. If you notice anything else faulty on the board then RMA it.

Sounds like you had a power surge or a lightning strike or something. And maybe your laptop wasn't plugged in when it happened.

Or it could be your cable modem remembers MAC addresses. You have to reset the cable modem when you change the piece of hardware that's connected to it, or it won't talk to the new NIC.

does that mean i have to get 3 NIC cards + new router?
and my laptop WAS plugged in and turned on; it happened couple hours ago when suddenly my internet stopped working. I have no wireless router and everything is wired.
and what do you mean by remembering MAC address and resetting my DSL modem?

Oh if it's a DSL modem then that doesn't apply. Sounds like you're back to 3 fried NICs and one fried router. RMA x4.
