My Phenom II 940 benchmarks - Page 23

When AMD said that it should be able to overclock to 4GHz on air, I admit, I was skeptical. I thought they were trying to exaggerate and hype their product, as expected. But more and more, it's looking like a very realistic expectation.

ENOUGH WITH 3DMARK! It's about as accurate as a sawnoff shotgun firing birdshot. Also, WHO THE HELL CARES how it's faster as long as it's faster? so what if you need to bump up the gigglehurtz to compensate for it not being clock-for-clock faster? IT DOESN'T FRIGGIN MATTER, YOU GET MORE FPS IN YOUR GAME REGARDLESS!

This isn't an intel chip. This is an AMD chip. AMD chips can usually take moar volts before accidentallying themselves.

there's no set mobo. The same chip will work in both, and they carry a memory controller for both types of RAM.

OP: Epic. When you get done with pointless benching, throw Vista 64 back on there and see how fast you can get a rock stable overclock on a gimped SB600.

You stole my (wanted) fame!
I planned on calling AMD earlier - just procrastinated for a very long time

Very nice benchys - they will still need to throw something after i7...Yay amd!

well I care and I bet many other people care to.. If it wasn't accurate then overclocking wouldn't help scores and when it gives within a couple of fps within another chip say an e8400 why even care when you wont notice the fps

IMO sounds like your trying to justify to yourself why you went with a lower performing competitor.

Thanks, and no they don't. The appeal of Deneb is that it exploits i7's achilles heel: Platform pricing. Why go i7, having to buy a 300 dollar motherboard and 150 dollar 3x1gb ram kit when you can simply buy a 100 dollar AM2+ SB750 one and keep your current DDR2? Nevermind how the Phenom II 940 is priced about the same as the i7 920, and has an unlocked multi to boot...

I don't have to, iggster. My 'slower' rig can play any game your 'faster' one can, and guess what?

It will play just fine.

I think YOU are trying to justify your credit card debt. It's widely known that 3dmark is NOT an accurate in-game performance indicator, I thought a benchwhore such as yourself would know that to begin with seeing as it's the only game you ever play.

lol sorry man but I dont even have a single credit card only things on credit is my m3 and my camry and my house

You said no one cares about benchmarks, you are wrong but you decide to run around the fact that people do care and try to replace reality with your opinion.

Plus IMO 17" gaming I would have to use binoculars

hm, what about people who don't' care about money but just want the very best? a I7 isn't that expensive, 700 bucks can buy you a X58+920 and 6GB DDR3. That ain't too bad. I will probably grab one later in 09. a good SB750 board is around 160 and 100 for good 1066 ram, add the CPU that is about 500. not much cheaper than Intel.. and I have the option to go SLI or Crossfire and better overall performance. a little bit over 1000 can probably build us a sick I7 pc with decent gaming power. That is certainly affordable.

Benchmarks are inaccurate and you know it. The only real way to rate how a given rig performs in a game is to, umm, play a game?

And no, i'm not. But whatever, I guess someone that spent more on their bleeding edge email checker/epeen generator than most people spend on their car isn't going to understand that. Benchmarks are the best games, aren't they?

You don't get it tho.

You don't need to buy new ram, and your mobo is AM2.

Literally all you need for a Deneb is the CPU. Plop it into your sig rig and you are off and running for the price of that Intel motherboard.

And if you want to see someone like you referred to, just look at iggster. Dictionary definition of the person yer after if I've ever seen one.

People who cant afford it and wish they had it will say those kind of things to justify it to themselves.

I am not saying I can afford it at moment, actually I could but I just want to keep my shabby machine for a little bit longer due to the sever economic recession we have. But certainly most of us here in OCN want the best performance even though it might cost us a few more bucks. what I call the people who wants the best is the ones who buy the best they could afford, which would be a nice new I7 setup for me I would love to see 8 CPUs in my hardware manager.
