Can't overclock E2180 with Asus P5Q-pro??

Thread Starter
I had an old VIA chipset when I bought my E2180 and could only overclock it from 2.0 -> 2.2/2.3Ghz before it wouldn't POST. So I bought new hardware so I could.. but ran into some problems..!!

I cannot OC it at all, only about to 2.02GHz or the Windows loading screen just sits there loading for an hour...

I installed the heatsink and temperature probes ( I wanted some ) correctly, and stock load temps are 31c ( Good, eh? ). Here is some of my hardware..

OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU. ( new )
Asus P5Q-Pro EATX motherboard ( new )
A 2Gb stick of RAM that isn't bad so don't worry ( New )
Artic Cooler FREEZER pro 7 ( or something like that, it's good. )
And my E2180 I bought last May..

RAM timings 5-5-5-15.

I checked all my motherboard connections.. I even decapped a connector ( was made so I could only put in a 4-pin for some reason.. ) that was made for an 8-pin and plugged that in.. ( The EATX +12 8-pin connector ) and that didn't change much..

I tried upping the voltages, like NB/Vcore abit and still I cannot get passed 205x10 =(

Any help?? I need to get this working.. Or I'll have to buy an E8400.

FSB hole.. Try going higher. Downclock your ram to bring it out of the equation, then keep bringing that FSB up.

Just exactly what is your 2GB stick of RAM? (You should also fill in your system specs.)

The E2180 should be a very simple OC. Try this on for size:

FSB = 266, CPU ratio = 10, FSB Strap Auto, DRAM speed DDR2-800, CPU Vcore = 1.35000 (may need slightly more or less).

Of course, buying an E8400 is also a good idea...

I am going to guess the OP is running the ram too high with not enough voltage. Whenever I see an unexpectedly low OC, its 90% of the time the ram running too high a divider.

Why not changing the memory divider to lower and raising fsb along with vcore.

My RAM is Just a single 1x2GB Kingston @ 667Mhz.

I didn't think of it.. But it was different from my other also failing OC.

I tried lowering my RAM from the setting of 667 -> 433Mhz or somewhere in the selection list. But it keeps bumping the list to make me choose 641/769/802/++++Mhz

Can I do any of those? with my 667 RAM?

FSB strap is on auto, And upping vCore and/or assuming it's a FSB hole seemed to not work.. I tried 210x10 - 250x10 - 320x 10 and they all stuck me at the windows loading screen, not frozen either.. All normal temps as well.

=(

Edit: What do you mean memory divider? I seem to have "DRAM Frequency, DRAM timing control, DRAM static control, DRAM Read training, MEM. OC charger, Ai Transaction booster etc., DRAM Voltage"

All spread spectrums are down..

Bah, Kingston. I used to think they were actually good.

So don't exceed DDR2-667 (anything below is fine) and be sure to set the DRAM voltage to whatever the stick is rated for.

Well, im my gigabyte board there is an option that multiplies the fsb*Mem divider and gives it to the memory..(i beleive..i can't explain in english).

Normal divider is 4 and normal fsb is 200, so 4*200=800mhz.
Now, for 3.2ghz is 2*400=800.

I don't know much about asus bios.

OP, if you set the NB strap to auto and select the lowest divider, you can run a 333 FSB without running the ram beyond spec.

I can't find devider anywhere =( Hold on i'll post a few pics of my BIOS.

333 Doesn't work when I force the RAM to be 667Mhz and not switch also..

Everything just seems to be stuck at that windows loading screen, just resetting the loading part every 20 secs. one min.
