Looking for a new Strategy Game

Alright, I know there are 3 big strategy games around the corner being Dawn of War 2, Starcraft 2, and Empire Total War.

However, I am looking for a temp. strategy game to fill my needs.

Here are Strategy games I have liked: Rome and Medieval 2 Total War (favorite by far), Dawn of War (Platinum), Company of Heroes, and currently I bought Red Alert 3 but the strategy seems to be dull.

I did not like World in Conflict though the campaign was good, but not so much multiplayer (felt it was a rush of units without much strategy involved and it was very hard finding a good group of people). Also, I am getting tired of constant resource gathering in the traditional sense and simple risk like battles will not suffice. Leaving odds up to dice is not something I like. However, I liked making cities and influencing in Civ 4 but I hated the politics that did not seem to be fleshed out and way too easy to piss off. Plus the battles weren't great and again Risk like. I have Sins of a Solar Empire, but the game is way longer than I would like and I have trouble keeping a stable economy.

What about Supreme Commander? It's more in the vein of C&C than Rome, but the scale is pretty amazing at times. The resource system is slightly unorthodox too.

I played this game, but what I did not like was the following:

A) a rush at the other persons base in the beginning
B) a race to Tech 3 and Experimental
C) not a whole lot of ability to use terrain or the map in a strategic fashion
D) the campaign was not too great
E) before the expansion the races and their tech felt too similar (for the most part)
F) some games took wayyyy too long (but not all the time)

However, I did like:

1) the grand scale of things
2) the amount of units you can have (love it)
3) the graphics and the fact my Q6600 handles it nicely
4) the expansion fleshed out the factions a bit more
5) non traditional resource gathering

All in all it was a great opening to the series, the expansion definitely helped in many regards including build time and the like, but I think Supreme Commander 2 (coming out this year?) will be where it's at.

I would say wait for Starcraft 2... Right now the only good RTS I have that I enjoy is CoH. Have you seen the Battle Report I posted a couple days ago from SC2?
