I own the Game of the Year Edition... but, I don't have the expansion as I didn't see the point.... but, I would say I am decent at it though I don't know the exact specs of the damage that units do (have the page marked though). My Xfire is RoddimusPrime.

B. I play CoH online on occasion so you should hit me up on Steam (Kamakazi010654) or AIM (Kamakazi010654) sometime and we can play. Although availability for me during the holidays is kind of hit and miss.
C. As for suggesting something, you pretty much hit everything I was going to say, other than check out some of the mods for M2:TW, some of them basically make it a whole new game
From what I heard the expansion should fix some of the things I didn't like about the original. Two things though:
1) Any tips on keeping your economy running well into the game? Somehow my AI opponents manage to pump massive amounts of units up while I can't do so anymore as my economy starts going into the negative.
2) Is the expansion a standalone and can you play any race or is it restricted if you don't have the first game?

My Steam and Xfire are both RoddimusPrime.

I had no idea about the mods for M2:TW... what are some of the mods? By the way I hate how you tend to get more and more civil revolts the more land you own..... the ratio dramatically increases....

The original is a bit old, so you could get it cheap. There have been two expansions, the most recent released this year, but I believe you can get the full set for a decent price (~$50USD).

Edit: I should add, the only downside is no multiplayer support. But the AI is tough enough, and varied.
Played that game and it was fairly good. While it was good it would be better with multiplayer support and a bit more strategy... I hope they release another sequel soon with multiplayer support and further enhancements.

I have put so many hours into that game, a very solid one it is.

Only issue is the OP he doesn't like it when battles come down to dice rolls, which is does, literally
Yes, dice rolls suck, but it seems to come down to pure power and numbers.... I think the game is fairly fun though. But, I would like to battle somebody for the supremacy of the galaxy

I play Battle for Middle Earth 2. It's a bit old so the graphics aren't the best and it gets a bad rep due to a terrible head-to-head multiplayer, but cooperative multiplayer is amazing. I would get it if you can get 2-3 friends to buy it with you and talk over skype. Maybe I'm just a little biased though, because I normally play with two guys who are even more addicted to the Lord of the Rings than I am.

Otherwise, the only strategy games I've enjoyed are Civ 4 (played 1000+ hours of that the year it first came out- yah, I did absolutely nothing else for fun for half a year) and multiwinia. Regardless of what else you get, get multiwinia. The games so simple and humorous, you can't really dislike it. For 10 bucks off steam, you can't really go wrong.

Basically just max out your planets population and build trade centers/refineries like mad. The last game I played I was 100/sec 12/sec 10/sec coin/metal/crystal just by upping my planets all the way and building a trade port and refinery at each one.

It is not standalone, and it is actually what should be called a "micro expansion" as it doesn't add any new races, just a couple of new units and Starbases. But it is only $10 so what really more do you want

why fix something if it aint broken?

try the Rome Total War Europa Barbarorum modification. it COMPLETELY overhauls the game and it is fantastic. i spent 6 straight weeks playing 5+ hours a day and didn't get halfway in my Roman campaign. best mod i have ever played.
