Athlon X2 5050e Running at 7 Celcius?

Thread Starter
So I just finished building a box for my GF's family, which will be used mostly for internet and basic computing. I used an Athlon 5050e (45 watt chip, 2.6 Ghz) with a 740G chipset. Everything came together beautifully. The one number that is perplexing me, however, is the temperatures. I was baffled how low they were. The new box is sitting next to my Athlon X2 4000+ box, and here are some number comparisons

Both boxes sitting side by side...

Box 1 - Athlon 4000+ (248 x 10.5 for 2604 Mhz at 1.3 Volts), Core 0 27C Core 1 28C

Box 2 - Athlon 5050e (200 x 13 for 2600 Mhz at 1.2 Volts), Core 0 7C Core 1 9C

You think these numbers are correct? How can the low voltage version make *that* much of a difference temperature wise?

Just another few quick things to add...the 5050e is on stock cooling in a poorly ventilated case (1 exhaust fan, cheapo case) whereas the 4000+ is in a P180 with 2 intake 2 exhaust fans and has a AC Freezer 64 on it......

I've just ran Prime95 on the 5050e and it maxed at 23C on both cores after about 10 minutes...ridiculous if these numbers are true...Been monitoring with both hardware monitor and core temp

Was thinking about lapping my 4000+ to try to get to 3Ghz for fun over xmas break, but damn, this 5050e makes me want to throw down 50 bucks on one of those for my box, lap it, and aim for 3.3 or so...

Thats relatively unbelievable unless your ambient temps are at or under 44*C, which is only 12*F above freezing. My guess is that the sensor is whacked, or your monitoring program is not reading it or configured properly.

And that would be the ambient temp INSIDE the case. Hence why I say relatively unbelievable

Can you recommend any freebie screenshot apps? I'll take a few and give some proof..I've tried two different monitoring programs...

Hey mate,

It's normal for Brisbanes to show this kind of temps. People say you should kinda add 20°C to whatever your readings are saying, so this would give you 27°C. It's a low consumption chip, it may very well stay only a couple of degrees over the ambient temperature.

That makes sense...thanks for the replies. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the build. It is absolutely perfect for what they need and it came in just under 300 bucks!
