E8400 pime95 2nd core fail.

The second core failed after 33 minutes, but the first core was stable for 12 hours. The vcore is 1.36v currently. Should I increase or is there another reason that it would fail?

1.36 as you probably already know is the maximum voltage people use on your Wolfdale for regular use. While that topic has been under debate a few times I personally would just stick to 1.36 to be safe.

Help us fellow OCN'ers out and fill in your system specs under the "User CP" tab -> "Edit System".

Other useful information:

-what clock rate are you trying to achieve?
-your motherboard?
-your northbridge voltage?

Sounds good. It could well be something as simple as needing a little bump in NB voltage to compensate for the higher FSB. You may even find that you can run 4.0 with less vcore.

My nbridge is at 1.41v right now.

Try putting your cpu gtl reference voltages to .61x. This is what helped me overclock my e8400 from 4.1ghz to 4.4ghz without much voltage increase on your same board (before I got my x38). May help may not.
You shouldn't need to raise northbridge at least in my experience on that board it can run around 500fsb before needing any voltage increase.

Edit: Also lower your nb gt to .61 as well. Also Mr. Niceguy is right 1.5v is getting pretty high and the northbridge on this particular dfi run pretty dang warm need good airflow in your case.

un4rmed I'd love to help you further but I don't want to pretend I know something I don't. I can't remember what the common NB voltage ranges are for the FSB you're running or what's considered over the safe limit. There are gads of P35 owners around here (with 8400's to boot) that will be able to give you a little more insight.

I did a little searching and the source I found states 1.5v is the 'whoa boy' zone. Try 1.45 or thereabouts.

EDIT: Alright good someone else chimed in. I know next to nothing about the reference voltages so do what he said first

There are two options fir that. CPU gtl 0/2 and 1/3. Both are set to .63x. Should I lower both?

Give it a shot it won't hurt anything it if doesn't help. Also lower the nb gtl too.

Alright. The cpu gtl and nbridge gtl are at .61 and I raised the nbridge to 1.45v. I'm actually going to take the vcore down a notch and see what happens. Thanks for the help guys. I'll rep as soon as I can get on the desktop.
