Asus Xonar DX2

Thread Starter
OK my nerves have finally reached breaking point with this excuse for a soundcard Creative have built. I've been very tolerant of Creative over their whole Vista fiasco and I've just had enough. Once again the broken cruddy Creative drivers have upset my PC and myself for the last time. At present, I have no sound. At all. With me I only have my digital headphones as I left the speakers at university and this thing insists it's outputting a DTS bitstream (granted my headphones do know what to do with a DTS stream, but that doesn't help here) when I know it's not as it doesn't have any drivers installed at present.

Anyway, at the moment I'm home for Christmas from university and about 2 hours ago my parents, bless them complained about the angry noises and frequent swearing coming from my room. Anyway they have suggested that instead of just giving me cash for Christmas, they offered to buy me a new soundcard instead. Something I wasn't quite expecting I will admit...

Now I've been eyeing up the Asus Xonar DX2 for a little while now but I finally have an opportunity to just go for it and see how I cope. For free!

I know a few people on this forum use the Asus cards and also have experience of X-Fi cards as well. I've been reading all the reviews I could find online and this card looks very promising. I understand that the ASIO driver that comes with it isn't up to the same standard as the Creative one, but ASIO4ALL should fix that problem for me as I do a lot of composing on this PC.

The Prelude was originally my first intention but I'm up for trying something new as I've had Creative cards since the Soundblaster AWE 32, and the Asus with it's C-Media chipset seemed a good idea.
So, what does everybody think of it? How highly recommended does it come as every review I have read praises it and throws its knickers at it but I thought I'd ask a forum of real enthusiasts rather than some odd-job reviewer.

Thanks for any input, it's much appreciated.

Lets just say this, the asus xonar is the perfect substitution for people in your situation, it has a better SnR than most of the creative cards anyway and yeh, youll never have to worry about creative drivers.

Alright, cheers you two. +REP anyway.

Anybody know of any compatibility issues between an nForce 780i chip and this card? It's already been ordered but I can still ask!
