Low FPS in games

post #1 of 34
Thread Starter
hello,
I Didn't know where to place the thread so I guess this is the General discussion for the kind of processor I've got

I Have a problem with Low FPS in game.

You can see the specs of my PC at the signature,
I've also Overclocked my CPU (4400+) to 2.71 GHz...
Some people told me that buying the HD4850 for this system will bottleneck it. So I guess this is the problem of the low FPS.

All drivers updated..

I've got HD4850 512mb Gigabyte.

an example for the low fps:
Call of Duty 4 @ 60fps [ 1280x1024 60Hz]
GTA IV @ 15-20 FPS [ 1280x1024 60Hz]

Do you have any idea of why am I getting such crap fps in games? It's really bothering me.

cod4 @ 60 fps is just fine. 30 fps is usually solid.

as for GTA IV many people with much faster rigs than you struggle to run more than 15-20 fps. you should check out the Rockstar forums if you don't get any good advice on how to fix the problem with GTA.

It runs alright for me and aside from an extra core our rigs are similar.

edit: two gigs of ram may be hurting you a bit in GTA.

P11ma, do you have the Catalyst Control Center installed or just the driver? Try adjusting the graphics options within the display driver (if you have CCC installed). Sometimes AA and AF are automatically enabled which could cause lower frames rates.

Out of curiosity, what model is that 500w power supply?

Good luck

Hey, Thanks for your response.
I didn't understand you as well...

what did you mean by AA and AF? How can I disable them?

AA = antialiasing
AF = anisotropic filtering

you can disable them using ATI's catalyst control center. it might have them enabled in all games by default, thus overriding what settings you have in the game itself.

P11ma, check the boxes next to, "Use application settings" for Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering. I'm pretty positive that will force these options off and only re-enable if they are specified within the game.

I'm having troubles finding info on that Mirage 500W PSU (DR-B500E). What is listed on the sticker that is located on the power supply?

Good luck

You need more RAM for GTA4 to run better.
