Low FPS in games - Page 2

I'm also with thlnk3r... if that PSU doesn't have the juice to power the CPU and the 4850 when its under load, then that could be the problem.

If you could post a link to the PSU, or a close up picture of the sticker on the side, that would help us know if you've got enough "omph" for the 4850. Usually you need about 30amps on the 12v rail to get by with a decent single card setup.

Good luck

and, like thlnk3r asked, could you read what it says on the side. how many amps are on the 12v?
Lol, are you seriously going by the "minimum requirements" needed?

Dude, you need more than 2GB of RAM. The game uses more than 2GB of RAM just to run smooth.

I ran a AMD x2 4400 and a 8800gts 320mb on a POS 450w PSU for a while and it ran fine. I upgraded the PSU and it changed nothing.

To OP the 4400 is your problem, your FPS is bang on for that CPU especially in GTAIV, that game is super dependant on the CPU.

SLinky is correct, GTA IV is MASSIVELY CPU intensive as well as GPU. So, CPU bottleneck is correct

Slinkey123, it's still important to have a power supply that can provide enough power to the 4850. The game is however still new to the PC platform. Who knows, perhaps maybe the game code is horribly bad?

Good luck

about the power supply, I hope this help:

better than nothing eh? lol

about the CPU.
It's 4400+ OC'ed to 2.82 GHz. So how bad can it be for GTA IV when the System Requirements are;
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz
AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHz.
Gotta be something else.

The CPU is not that good because GTA4 needs a quad core. I get like 30-40 with a quad core.

Thats a great drawing. And it gives us enough infor to tell you that your PSU is severely underpowered. It has just about half of the amperage that the 4850 needs.

The math behind it is simple, amperage is watts divided by volts. so since we're looking at the 12 v rail, you take the watts available on the 12v rail, and divide by 12.

216w /12v gives you 18 amps... and I believe that the 4850 requires around 28-30amps.

So part of the reason might be the older CPU (haha, I use a 4600, what am I talking about), but part of it is likely that neither the 4850 or 4400 is performing to its max potential.

Good luck

Well. Could you recommend me on a power supply that will go along with my HD4850?
Something cheap if it's possible >.<
I already want to buy other things like CPU heat sink and new processor ( though about the AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+)
So I'll need a proper Power supply...

ow yeah, forgot my manners >.> I bet it's because of the late hour..
thanks for everyone that hepled me in this rep >.> i'll try to rep yall ^^

4850 needs ~ 9.5A
