corsair xms2 2x2 4g set - Page 2

i just hope you didnt fry your memory while trying to OC it because its max volts are 2.1 if you go over your memory is probably damaged... but using 900~1000 mhz using xms2 wouldnt let you lower the timing and if it does it will not give you anymore improvement... i feel bad that your xms2 cant reach 1000 but i want you to know that 1000.1 just a .1 will give you a blue screen or it wouldnt even post just a series of beeps i know i tried so just be careful on your calculations and dont jump on 1000 because i did mine by stepping 2mhz at a time

The highest RAM setting you can use with an AM2 CPU and motherboard is DDR2 800. Only AM2+ CPUs (Phenoms) and motherboards can enable the DDR2 1066 setting. However, you can set the memory to DDR2 800 but still achieve DDR2 1066 speeds or higher by overclocking the CPU. If your default CPU multiplier isn't giving you fast enough RAM speeds, lower the CPU multiplier and increase the reference clock to achieve the same CPU speed, but a lower CPU --> memory divider giving you higher memory clocks. If that just confused you, try reading this.

Running the RAM well over DDR2 800 speeds didn't give much of a performance increase with AM2 CPUs in my experience. Intel really benefits from the higher memory bandwidth, AMD seems to only see modest gains. So I wouldn't invest too much money in RAM, you'll see better gains by spending more on the video card instead.
