shared memory

Thread Starter
Hi, Ive recently been given a laptop. Its an Acer travelmate 2200. 2.66gb celeron, 1.25gb ddr ram, ATI 9000 graphics.
Ive changed the bios settings so that Ive got the maximum 128mb of ram shared with the graphics.
Is it possible to 'force' the system to share more ram? maybe 256mb?

edit: Its running XPpro 32bit

If the max the BIOS allows is 128, then no.

So a bios update may have more options?

Are you trying to achieve some level of functionality? I ask as with IGP's so many issues other than amount of memory. I have even heard said IGP's cannot make use of more than 128MB's. I had an ATI 1150m. I could set the amount of reserved system RAM then it would allow the same shared. After many benchmarks and much testing I set at 128MB I could of set at 256MB but so no improvement.

Let me try and express a 256MB GDDR3 8600m GT crushes a 512MB DDR2 8600m GT. Quantity is not all. So once again what are trying to accomplish?

And good luck. If a BIOS flash works, more power to you. Also there is a 9000 that has discrete graphics are you sure which you have?

Yes. I take the laptop round to my friends house and we play UT2004 online. It seems ok-ish with the game settings turned down. But the task manager shows the cpu running at 100% So Im just trying to give the graphics a little 'help'. If I can get the shared memory up to 256mb then Id probably upgrade the ram to the 2gb max.

edit: heres some specs from the manual

Performance
• Intel® Pentium® 4 processors 2.8/3.0/3.2/3.4/3.6 GHz or Intel®
Celeron® processors 2.6 GHz and above or Intel® Celeron® D
processor 330/335/340/345
• ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9000 IGP chipset
• 256/512 MB of DDR333 SDRAM, upgradeable to 2048 MB with
dual soDIMM modules
• 30 GB and above high-capacity, Enhanced-IDE hard disk
• Advanced Configuration Power Interface (ACPI) power
management system

Awwww.... wish it had one of the pentiums
