65nm @3.3 GHz vs 45nm @ 4.0 GHz

So considering my system, is it a worthwhile upgrade to go from:

65nm C2D @ 3.3 GHz 4MB L2 Cache

to:

45nm C2D @ 4.0 GHz 6MB L2 Cache


The newer chip will probably be an E8400.

This is strictly for gaming purposes.

It is worth it if you can get $50 to $60 out of the E6320 you have there.
I'm going from an E6300 @ 3.00ghz to an E8400 @ 3.6ghz soon. Should be here Tuesday.
Clock for clock the Wolfdale is faster as well, so it would be like having a 5.00ghz E6320 if that makes sense?

You would see much more of an improvement with a GPU upgrade or crossfire.

You would see an improvement, but it would be better to get a second GPU for crossfire or to upgrade to a better GPU.

~ 20% faster but you are better of getting a second GPU. You can always upgrade CPU later.

I've seen other people saying this as well--that the 45nm Core2's are faster clock-for-clock than the 65nm's--but I've never seen any benchies to prove this. Do you have any? I'm not calling you out on it, so don't take it like that, it's just something I'd really like to know as well. Because a lot of people have been asking this question, and some people say that the architecture is the same, only with a die-shrink, so performance is the same, and other people say the wolfdales are faster clock-for-clock. Granted, it could just be due to the higher cache, though I don't think it would be THAT much...not like having a 5GHz 6320--though that would be awesome!

It is faster, but not by that much... only 15% or so. The other guy is exaggerating when he says a wolfdale at 3.6 is like a connie at 5.0

I can't find the article I read, but it's out there. The wolfdale has some set of instructions that make it a little faster.
