ATI 4850 Red Light!

Thread Starter
Well I was playing a video when suddenly my screen when black and the fan on my 4850 kicked in at 100%, I looked at the card and one red LED on the back was constantly on. I rebooted the system and it's fine now. What does this mean?

GPU-Z was running in the background and when I started it up the first time after the crash it displayed 0 values in the core and mem speed slots, then I restarted GPU-Z again and got a GPU-Z driver error and then I restarted it again and everything displayed fine.

Temps were NOT abnormal when the crash occurred.

I think it's a powerplay issue. I was at the same point, but only on XP. On Vista everything went fine. I don't know what is, but I am sure that is software / bios related.

RGDS.

Yes, the odd thing was that the clock speeds keep constantly fluctuating between power saving and full throttle modes when I checked GPU-Z when I was doing nothing GPU intensive. This did not happen pre-8.12 drivers.

Maybe the amps on the 12v rail is too weak. Not sure which model purepower you have but im guessing its this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153077 It has 14 amps and 15amps on the 12v rails which is pretty weak

It happened once, everything is back to normal he says. I don't know what to say, I've had the drivers not respond a couple times when I was overclocking before. That might be it.
