Choosing 1Tb HDD

Thread Starter
I'm building new system with Q9550+GTX260, so wanted to take a new big HDD - 1Tb. What HDD is Silent and fast - just which one is good? I heared that Seagate and Samsung are nice? But which exactly?

One more question. I saw some systems with 2 HDDs like - 300Gb Veloceraptor + 1 Tb Samsung or something. So why people use that 300 Gb veloceraptor - they Install Operating System there or what's purpose?

Read up on the newest large HDDs. From what I've seen the 1tb seagates have a pretty big failure rate, and the samsungs don't seem to be too much better ATM. IMO it's best to go with a WD Caviar Black if its your main drive, or Green for storage - if you want to save a few bucks.

And how would you comment taking 300Gb Velociraptor as a main drive and 1Tb caviar black as storage? Or this solution is mostly for pros?

The 300GB Velociraptor is for the OS mainly and any program you want to have a high access speed with (like a game)....

The other 1TB drive is for storing data mostly like music, photos, documents, etc.....

So do you think is it worth to buy Veloceraptor or staying with just caviar black is good?

I would consider having a 1TB drive as the C:/ drive a waste. I would never store any data on the C:/ drive, considering that if you have to reimage or something, you would loose all of it.

640GB C:/ + 640GB (or 1TB) D:/ drive.

That's why I'm replacing one of my 80GB drives with a 250, and getting a 2nd 640. I need the space, and even though the 640 is far faster, I don't want to put data on it.
Blackbox.
