XFX GTX260 Black Edition

Thread Starter
First, I wanted to ask if all XFX GTX260 Black Edition cards coming with core 216 and 55mm?

Secondly I'd like to hear your opinion about this card. I'm buying a new computer based on Q9550. So do you think this card would be good decision to buy?

I know about it's main competitor - Ati 4870, but what about drivers and I heared that lots of game developers are in better relationships with nVidia, so I prefer it much more.

So what would you advice? Spending 100$ for a stock GTX280, spending less for 4870. Or buy this card? What about noise and overclocking of this card? I'm never overclocked anything before, but I'm gonna try with Q9550. So for a newbie XFX GTX260 Black Ed. is good decision to buy?

And which Motherboard would you recomend for this card, or it doesn't matter ?

if you really need it now, get the 280 its worth the extra 100 bucks (well depends as well on resolution that you will be using, if you dont plan on playing on high res and not upgradint to high res display the yeh save the 100 bucks) or if you can wait a bit nvidia has is expected to releas somthing betwee q4 and q1, you can see my sig rig i have a 9800gt wich is enough i play every game maxed out on 1680x1050 no problems, if it was higher res the id need more, i am waiting for the next nvidia release as i dont really like ATI for the same as you mentioned...

once the new cards are out ill also get a new monitor.

hope my toughts help you make your decision

why would he regret it?
its what you pay for. more money => more performance(260) , less money less performance(4870) ... and 55nm is even better for overclocking and comes pretty close to the 280
i say go for the 260 ... you cant go wrong with it

4870 1GB ain't a bad choice either.

Problem is the 55nm GTX 260's are mixed with the 65nm ones, unless you get this one:

The GTX 260 Black Edition is $100 more than the 4870, its in no way worth it for when they perform so close together.

I find the gtx 280/260 and hte 4870 are all pretty much in the same ball park for performance... one's faster here and the others faster over there... only thing is the ati is cheaper... and DON"T use the excuse saying drivers suck for ati CAUSE THEY DON"T! that's so 90's

Well, if you are speaking on pure technicality I would say spending more money for the slightly better performing product would be correct, but in my opinion and in most people's opinion it would be better to save quite a chunk of dough and go with the better bang for your buck.
