Is Vcore = 1.32 V too high on i7 920???

This will be my first OC ever. I'm building a system for my grandfather in law, he's awesome, don't ask but he wants a beast machine just to say he has one.

I've got the system up and running and it has the following:

i7 920
P6T Deluxe
6GB DDR3 1333 (3x2GB)
TRUE cooler (not lapped)
HAF Master Cooler Case
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
300GB Velociraptor (C: ), 2 640GB in a RAID 1 config (D: ) with an extra 640GB drive (E: )

I'm idling around 37 C right now, but the system is fresh and the Arctic Cooler 5 hasn't had a chance to cure.

Honestly, I'd love to spend the time just taking baby steps with this build but I'm a little crunched for time as it's a Christmas present. So, with that in mind, does anyone have a setup similar to mine? (I've found some in the i7 920 overclock thread but only with 1600 Mhz ram, not the 1333 that I have) Care to spoon feed me your stable (stress tested) settings?

I've read that with the P6T Deluxe I can probably just leave everything on auto and just change the Base Clock, Vcore and Memory and make it easy on myself.

If I have to go buy better (1600) ram, I will, but I'd really like to just rock and roll with what I've got.

I really appreciate the help.

I'm not familiar with OCing the with Core i7s...

But hopefully this will help: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...-core-i7-920/1

Scroll down and on the next few pages it discusses OCing the i7 with the P6T.

That was a good reference. They used 1600MHz Ram for that OC, anyone have any ideas with 1333?

I might have to just RMA the stuff I have and snag some 1600s, anyone?

To be honest, not many people will know much about overclocking i7. Look around and pm people who have i7s and ask them how they did it.

All i can tell you is to scan the i7 920 overclock thread and check others settings, or be patient because the chips are so new and people are still trying to find out how to overclock them efficiently. here's the thread, good luck! : http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ng-thread.html

I think I finally got my 3.7 stable, had to set Vcore to auto, the mobo chose 1.32V.

See attached, I'm just into a Prime 95 torture test on 4 cores, 8 threads. I just changed the Vcore back to auto, and so far it looks stable at 1.32 V, will this cause problems if I run it 24/7 at this voltage in terms of longevity????

I can't wait to benchmark this beast and see what I can do, this PC is a straight animal.

Base Clock = 185 MHz

Multiplier = 20.0

Vcore = auto

Everything else left on auto, may be my first overclock but it definitely seemed like a very EASY OC.

Couldn't keep it stable I suppose, rebooted itself about 30 mins into the Prime 95 torture test.

Still a little worried about longevity at this core voltage, how about those temps? Should I chill out a little bit there as well (no pun intended)?
