So does World Tour. It has a microphone and a drum set just as RB does.

I was wondering the same thing today, which one to get. I was on RB2 last night at my mates house and I personally don't like it much. It seems a lot easier than Guitar Hero on the same settings. I just prefer GH for some odd reason

EDIT:

I also hate the guitar that comes with RB2. It has reduced noise so the buttons are soft (kind of like on a laptop compared to a keyboard) and it just doesn't feel right. When you are mashing the buttons you don't feel or hear the confirmation like you would on the previous guitars. But that's just me being weird I guess.

??

It did didn't it.

GH was around first with just a guitar, then Rockband made a whole set of instruments so GH did one with all the instruments.

AFAIK they are both made by the same developers anyways.

Rock Band 2, definitely. I have RB1 and 2, and GH3; and Rock Band is just a better game than Guitar Hero. My personal reasons, recognizing that I'm comparing to GH3, not GH:WT:

1. I like the Rock Band guitar better. It's bigger, feels better. Guitar Hero's looks and feels like a Fisher Price toy, plus the buttons are small and not difficult to "miss".

2. Visual presentation - Rock Band's just kills GH's.

3. Note tracks - Rock Band's "make more sense", they are easier to "get into the music" to. GH3 at least seems like they went out of there way just to be "hard".

4. Downloadable content - Not even a fair contest. Rock Band has over 500 songs in its catalog. GH isn't even playing in that arena yet.

5. It doesn't hurt than Rock Band's on-disc song selection just appeals to me more.

Of course, whichever one you buy you can always buy the other game (just the disc) later. That's what I do, I'll be getting GH:WT eventually.

And it's not backwards compatible, either, which is annoying as hell. So there's another reason to get Rock Band 2: after you buy it, go rent Rock Band 1, pay your $5 license fee, and import all 70+ songs from the rental disc. Major, major value there.

Definitely cheaper to buy the bundle.

Well I think it is, but that's because Guitar Hero just tries to be insane hard sometimes.

Harmonix did Guitar Hero, then left and made Rock Band. So the Rock Band guys are the "old school" folks who have been doing this from day one. The Guitar Hero guys just inherited the Guitar Hero brand when Harmonix left.

hear! hear!

Real instruments are old news now. It's all about the little toy ones!

Actually, I have no rhythm and I am totally tone deaf. These games are awesome for me.

I think you should get the Rock Band 2 disc only and then go on ebay and buy the peripherals individually. You can find some pretty decent deals on ebay for the stuff. I saw a pair of guitar hero :world tour guitars sell for 72 bucks.

Imo the guitar hero guitar is way better than the rock band one. I like that the buttons are a tad harder to push in and that it clicks when you strum. The guitar hero one just feels more sturdy and they almost never have problems with the od/star power activation.

The rock band 2 drums are supposedly pretty decent. I only have my modded rb1 drums still and I have never used rb2 drums but I've heard from a few people they are a lot better than stock rb1. You don't need to worry about getting an expensive drum kit unless you play actual drums already. It will take you quite some time to work your limb independence/speed of mental counting/natural rhythm up to expert level. You don't really need a good set($150-300 for goodwoods or ion) until you can 5 star most of the hard songs on expert. + You might just prefer the guitar part anyways and not play the drums much.

Actually GH:WT is kind of backwards compatible. I have GH 3, and GH:Aerosmith and use the GH:WT guitar on both. However, those two games were developed before World Tour came out and don't work with the drums and mic.

That said, it really boils down to which songs you like better. GH:WT had a lot of songs that the wife and I liked. Plus we liked the cymbals that come on the GH:WT drum kit. So that's the route we went.

We also bought GH:Aerosmith (cause my wife is an Aerosmith freak) to get another guitar and then the game only version of GH 3.

A lot of stores have both available to try out. Give that a whirl and see which you like better.
