Xps 1530 - Page 3

I am really happy with this laptop. It is really easy to work on. You can replace the CPU in about 5 min! I linked you the service manual, which really helps. I had to disassemble the laptop down to just the base and motherboard to fix my wireless switch and wifi sniffer (Dell left the cable unplugged).

The 45nm Penryn CPUs run much cooler then the 65nm. My CPU loads to 63°C max running Prime95 and Ati tool.

The customer service is great too!

I am VERY pleased with my XPS 1530, it is a great laptop. I do however like the studio a bit better but the xps does have a better GPU if you get the 8600gt.

Yea I upgraded to the 8600gt. I'm not buying a new laptop every year so might as well get something better that can last.

Same chip I have in mine. No problems for me. Not the coolest running CPU ive ever used in a laptop but its only ever overheated once ever. I was doing a very long render for about 45 minutes and it crashed but other than that its been a good little CPU.

Probably not. Rendering an image takes 100% of the CPU 100% of the time so thats why its so stressful. Games usually take 60-75% of a dual core depending on the game.

You should not. I see no reason why that CPU would have more or less heat issues than other Intel's of the same family (Core 2). I don't know what render is but suspect that is a CAD/professional operation so suspect GPU could of been involved in the shutdown as much as CPU. Also because of the defect in 8600m GT cards if the BIOS had the fix would shut down early. Also DeLL is the one MFG that has the fan override application so you could manually set fans at full if you wanted to game hard. I doubt fan noise would be an issue over the gunfire and explosions, . People game on this so no you will not have a problem just don't sue me if I am incorrect.
