Hello OCN

i need help making up a Acceptable use policy for the desktop computers, so i can get people i fix computers for to sign it

seeing as i maintain their computers / upgrade them when necessary
i want to make a Acceptable use policy and get them to read it or at least sign it
so i am not liable for illegal things that they do on their computers

but i am not sure as to how to do this
and would like help from people that have experience in this part

Just go into Word and type it up.

I, _______________, do understand the following:

1)
2)...

Then have them sign it.

You're making your mother and sisters sign an agreement for how they use a computer? I could see doing it for a stranger, but not loved ones. If my mother or sister screwed something up on a family computer, I fixed it. I complained, sure, but in the end, it saved them from taking it to a "professional" and having to pay money. I dont know what you plan to accomplish with this "acceptable use policy." It seems like something you would make someone sign if you didnt trust them.

thats not what a Acceptable use policy is
it basically stating that all you do is setup the pc and maintain it , and you have explained what you can and can not do on the pc (illegal things mainly) and if they do any of them things and get caught anyway you can't be held liable its mainly a protection kinda thing - not that they do anything illegal its a just in case

if you use anyone elses computer to fix/maintain it you are supposed to make these policy's, and get people to read / sign it, otherwise you can be held liable for it even if its family

Haha I was going to say that I made a "Room Rules" thing I put on my door to my room when I was little. I thought this idea sounded similar..

i wish
we didn't get to do computers until Year 10, and then it was just stupid Microsoft Office Applications

it wasn't until Year 11 that we got to the real stuff, how ever i wasn't allowed to do the course, since i was doing a tafe certificate III information technology course, so i decided to leave school, and just do TAFE, less stress that way
i have finished my Cert 3 course, because it ended 4th December
Cert 4 next year

(in Cert III they talked allot about how it was important for tech support people to make acceptable use policys to protect them selfs from legal action)
thats where i got the idea from

if it was homework, i would of posted this in the off topic: home work help part of OCN

this is purly to protect me incase my mum/sister decide to do illegal things on the computer and get caught (unlikly) but you never know

its not that they would turn the blame on me, its just the caught of law would see me as liable, because i don't have a acceptable use policy

but anyway, anyone got any ideas?
