Overclock Athlon64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ please help?? - Page 2

I have a new problem.

PC wont come out of standby.
PC is set to go standby after 45 mins, it does go into standby power lite flashes as it should. When its time to come out of standby power lite and red hard drive lite stay on but screen stays black and nothing happens at all. I must hit restart button or unplug power before I can get PC to boot up. This does not happen if PC is only on standby for a short time, but if its on standby for several hours it wont come out of standby. My PC needs to come out of standby in the middle of the night to do work automatically like I want.

I dont know if the overclock is causing this problem. I have reduced the OC to 3.11GHz because the memory runs at 399.2MHz then. Even so last night PC did not come out of standby. Tonight I will set OC to auto (no OC) and see if PC will come out of standby.

The question I have for you is:
Can overclocking cause PC to not come out of standby??

Short answer: Unstable OC's can make all sorts of things go screwy, because the files that become corrupted are pretty much at random.

Was the OC stable? As I read through the thread, you mentioned that you hadn't done it yet, but that you were gonna get to it on the weekend. Did that ever happen? If the OC was stable, then that shouldn't be the issue. An easy way to check this, is to roll back the OC completely, and see if it still does it.

If the problem goes away after its back at stock clocks, then we've found the problem. If not, then its something else.

Bottom Line: I have no idea if the OC was the cause of this, but we should check to find out.

Good luck

Ya ok.....

I'll set it back to stock tonight and see if it comes out of standby properly.

Snorg, what sleep state do you currently have it set to? I'm reading your manual now and your board only offers S1 and S3. I believe S3 shuts down the PC and stores everything in "memory" so perhaps your memory OC is the culprit. Have you tried the "S1" state? I believe this stores the data on your drive but takes a bit longer to come out of sleep.

Let us know

Good luck

Hi thlnk3r
I dunno Ive never touched that so I guess its whatever default is.
I dunno beans about S1 & S3, I got "standby" set up in windoze control panel>power settings. Thats all I know.
Like I sez for short periods standby works fine, but after a few hours, when PC is spoze to wake up and do automatic work it hangs.
Please advise.
thx

Snorg, restart your computer and go into the BIOS. Go to the "Power" menu and check to see what is listed next to "Suspend Mode". I have a feeling it's set to AUTO. Try both the S1 and S3 states and see if any of those help. Perhaps the standby setting in Windows isn't agreeing with the corresponding settings in the "Power" menu.

Good luck

Snorg, sounds good. S1 was the sleep state that stored everything in memory. Perhaps S3 will be the right one for you. It's a little slower then S1 but if it works then hopefully it doesn't matter.

Good luck
