8750, 9850, or Phenom II? - Page 2

Phenom II all the way.

AMD's current Phenom series leaves much to be desired even without overclocking. The Phenom II will be a massive improvement (even without overclocking). You can get an AM3 board later on to do your overclocking.

If you get a current Phenom I don't think they are "Forward Compatible" with the AM3 boards. The Phenom II will be backwards compatible until you get that AM3 board.

yea the 9950 did jump up to 199. Didn't notice that. They keep jumpin around from 180 - 170 and back up again. My bad. The reason I suggested the 9950 is because they're more reliable with overclocking. 9850's are kind of hit or miss. I had a 9850 that would not go any higher than 2.8 on a SB600 but some can get them well into the 3's.

I'd wait for the Phenom II if you can wait.

At the very least, you'll save a couple of bucks, maybe invest that into a nice aftermarket heatsink (assuming that you'll not be getting the Phenom II).
