I haven't tested if my OC (700/1750/1005) is stable w/ 2 cards, but it was with one. I think I got a bit lucky with my cards, but a good goal I would say would be 650/1600/950).
i think if i am correct that his card is 660core and 950mem OC'd from the factory like mine was,not sure without more details from the OP

OP is your card the NX8800gt OC?

yeah i ahve the exact same card.
But the problem is, I ahev runned a furmark on 1680*1050 with MSAA on 16x just turned everything to max

and already after 3minutes it went up to 90degrees with ease

that's not normal... or was it just an insane overkill-stresstest...

i dont use the test you mentioned so i cant coment on how hard it pushes card temps.but it really sounds like your cards fan is set on default auto control.
can you confirm what your gpu fan is runnign at?

depending on the prog your using you should be able to see and set your fan speed higher. the msi card we both have ran hot for me too until i forced the fan speeds higher all the time.

yeah they're running at stock, 30% i think it was.

What test did you use to see if your temps were stable under load?

Turn on fan control in ntune. Reseat your gpu heatsink with AS5 or Shin Etsu compound. My temps dropped quite a bit by just reseating with Shin etsu.

ya step one you need to get that fan runnin higher and that alone will help those temps alot.then once you know where you sit for temps you can start to look at oc'n.

personaly i use a combo of alot of tests.prime95 for cpu load, full tests of 3dmark06,gpucaps viewer tests.even the test you mention sounds like its working your gpu good so fix the fanissue and run the text again you should see it alot cooler...and unfortunatly alot louder too.

Weren't 8800GT cards kind of a hothead back then? I remember a lot of 'complaints' about it. I don't think that 80c with fan on auto is that much of a deal. Unless you're going to want to overclock a bit more. Lower temps means higher clocks, on 50% fanspeed I can get 790/1900/1100 or something. On 100% + extra fans I can get 820/2025/1100.

(don't try those clocks on a 8800GT, I did that stuff on a 8800GTS, just telling you that a difference in temperature might be a big deal).

yeah thanks

i'll try and do the test again on 50% fan speed

though, with how much do i need to crank up the memory speed when i crack up the core speed? just the ratio is fine

1000mhz on the memory is generally a nice OC, the memory on these cards doesnt seem to like being run much higher then that.

i havent used EVGA's precision, but rivatune allows you to unlink the shader and core clocks. generally you can get a touch higher shader/core clocks by doing them separatly.

and if your aiming for anything more then 650 core then i would recomend running the fan speed @ 100%, the lower the temps the higher your clocks.

my stock Evga 8800GT were flashed with SSC bios. I was able to overclock them to 740/1840/1000MHZ. If your card is manufactured by EVGA try flashing them with SSC bios. The reason I say EVGA is because they are the only one I know make three kind of 8800 gt and bios flashing from Regular to SC to SSC dont void you warranty.
