Thread Starter
I had to move the sound card that came with my asus maximus to another pci-e(x1) slot. Now the installer is unable to detect it. Whats the problem?

you know, i had the same problem. i searched everywhere and found now answer, and for some reason, the installer from asus's site couldn't find the SC.

are you using the installer from the disc? or from the net? cause the installer worked from the disk but from the net it never found the card, so i ended up buying a x-fi on the cheap :\\. pci-e 16x will accept pci-e 1x cards, so try other slots?

The cards that come with Asus boards won't work with any other motherboards.
Sometimes.

I believe the card that comes with the asus motherboards only work in the top pci x1 slot.

Correct. The PCI-E is wired differently and will only accept the ASUS card, and the ASUS card will only work in that slot.

X-Bit: ASUS Striker Extreme Mainboard Review

The physical design of this slot is similar to PCI Express x1 but turned by 180 degrees, however there is no electrical compatibility with the PCI Express x1. The thing is that Supreme-FX is actually not a fully-fledged sound card, but simply an analogue part of the sound tract connected to the AC97 interface. That is why you can only see a one microchip on the Supreme-FX card: the high-definition 8-channel Analog Devices AD1988B codec.
