Thread Starter
Okay, I posted about this before, but the problem is a reoccurring, so I'm making a new thread:

Ever since a bad XP install (it refused to validate and became corrupted), my hard drive won't partition, and my DVD drives will only read my Vista install disk, and they have trouble doing that.

In the previous thread, I was told to switch the IDE controller mode from SATA to ACPI. This allowed me to install Ubuntu Linux with no issues. However, when I installed Vista onto my machine again. And once again I lost all ability to partition or use my DVD drives.

I've tried things such as completely wiping the MBR, reseting the CMOS a couple of times, but none of them seem to work.

Is my motherboard permanently damaged, or is there something I missed?

The specs of the computer are in my signature, in case they are needed.
