I was about to say no.... but then I realized it said CAD after the price....

anyways.... its a pretty good deal. Biostar isn't really my first choice for a board manufacturer but it looks like they have earned a descent rep from newegg reviews. The E5200 will overclock further than your 5200+ and is faster clock for clock.

Good luck!

The E5200 really doesn't shine unless it's overclocked pretty heavily 3.4 GHz+. I think that motherboard might have a tough time getting the processor to that point. Otherwise it's a good deal, just a slight gamble.

ic, well it is very difficult to even get my 5200+ to 3.1, and that was just enough to be validated, i couldnt get it to run through 3dmark06.

well, it would cost me about 210.00 shipped CAD for this deal, can anyone find a better deal? ie better board manufacturer? the cpu can always be upped later on to a E7200 or even E8400 if i have the funds. right now, im just trying to make the switch over to intel.

From an overclocking perspective the E5200 is in a totally different league than your Athlon. The question will be how close to 4 GHz can it hit.

If you're willing to wait for a much better return on a system, your best bet would probably be picking up a used C2D and Motherboard off the sale portion of these forums. I think it would net you a much bigger return than going with this combo at least.

yeah i tried that, i've been lurking around the FS section for a while now looking for a good deal on some parts (more importantly, some from Canada or from buyers who will ship to canada). i posted in the wanted thread about it too, still no replies as of yet.

what are temps like, or is it just a stability issue. if i were to get it the CPU would be under water.

i have it running on a zalman 9700 cooler (air); also, the temps are generally 37-38 idle and about 57-60 load (i'm missing a couple of screws on the 9700 so its not even properly mounted so im sure if i had all the screws installed on the 9700, id get even lower temperatures)

at 3.625ghz , it failed intel burn test, but @ 3.53ghz it was 100% intel burn test stable.

the only problem i have witht he board is that the CPU voltages can only be UPPED BY PERCENTAGES . 5, 10, and 15% only. so my max voltage on this cpu is at 1.316 which is pretty damn low for a 3.53ghz overclock. i just wished the motherboard can be upped by increments rather than percentages; i know it can definitely hit 4.0 if i was aloud to increase the voltages higher .
