Best AM2+ SLI motherboard

Thread Starter
I was wondering what the best am2+ sli motherboard is at a decent price. Considering a change over to the phenom II 940 when it comes out next month, as well as maybe a set of gtx295's depending on how much crap I can sell off of ebay.

Is this a decent board?

Do not buy that AsRock board.

Your best bet for an AMD SLi board will be the MSI K9N2 Diamond, Foxconn Destroyer, or Asus Crosshair II Formula. Out of those motherboards, I would buy the Destroyer.

It is important to note that none of these boards would be anywhere near as good at OCing as a 790GX or 790FX/SB750 solution, and that you would be lucky to get 100-200MHz overclock on the nVidia based motherboards. So unless you really have your sights set on a nVidia SLi setup, a better option would be a comparable CrossFire setup on a much better 790FX/SB750 or 790GX motherboard.

Either way, Good luck.

I have an ASUS Crosshair board, and I have experienced nothing but problems with them. Thankfully, my next RMA will be free of charge. Got to love *****ing at the customer service rep.

I would go with the XFX board or Foxconn. I know they are expensive, but they are much better then ASUS with AMD chips.

I think they also have a DFI SLI board if you wanted, I don't know that much about AMD boards but if those don't appeal you could check that out as DFI makes great boards.

Thanks for the warning, definitely good to know. Well maybe I will just go with a CF setup instead. I do want to get a nice overclock out of the 940

Is this a good bang for buck crossfire/overclocking board? Seems to be very popular. Any other recommendations for under 200?

edit: just noticed I didn't post a link haha, sorry

I would defo go with the Asus u linked or DFI 790FXb-M2RSH (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136057)...

790FX boards do CF with 16x/16x PCIe slots while 790GX boards do the 8x/8x PCIe split... If youre going CF, 790FXb is a way to go, 790GX is more of a single card board, altho it does have 2 PCIe slots...

Both of the PCIe slots on a 790GX can do 16x, but it's just that they can't do it together - dont get confused by the specs at newegg... In the same manner 790FXb has 3x PCIe (16x) but it can only do 16x/16x/4x or 16x/8x/8x, and not 16x simultaneously on all 3 PCIe slots...

Ultimately, dont look at the SB600 boards they suck whn it comes to OC-ing, must be a SB750 board... those are the winners...

Cheers, Milos

EDIT: And seriously i think DFI is better (and u save 25$) cuz, really who the hell needs 4x PCIe slots on that Asus? - the board is great for sure, but is 4th PCIe really worht 25$ to you?

That board is very good, but the Foxconn A79A-S is $60 off and has a $60 mail-in-rebate. Essentially you are getting a $220 motherboard for $100.
I personally will be buying one soon if that rebate is still around when I make my decision.

Good luck.

Wow that foxconn seems like a great deal. I'm assuming it is a CF board.
