An Nvidia card for physx along side ATi card??

Thread Starter
Is it possible for me to use my 8500Gt for Physx alongside my trusty 4850?

If yes, how?

Not in Vista, it doesn't allow 2 video drivers to be installed at the same time.

Um...if you're talking about SLI or Crossfire modes (running two video cards simultaneously) then you're out of luck. Nvidia only works with Nvidia, ATI with ATI, etc.

If you're having trouble running Physx applications, make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers for your 4850. For some reason ATI cards almost invariably do worse than Nvidia in Physx applications (maybe because Nvidia owns Physx? hm...) but the Radeon HD 4800's actually do pretty well compared to others. In any case, if you're looking for that extra boost of processing power, consider getting a second 4850 (assuming your MOBO allows crossfire) or a 4870: I think your 1066 memory and 3.6ghz CPU would gobble up that extra bandwidth

He wants to use his 4850 as his video card, and his 8500GT as a dedicated PhysX card. Not possible in Vista due to driver issues.

Wasn't there a member here with ATI and a Nvidia card for Physx and running vantage?
I thought I seen it in top 30 or somewhere....

I looked for it and couldn't find the post, maybe I'm wrong but I though I seen it...

IDK about Vista, but I have ran ATI and nVidia cards together before. You will prbly need a display connected to your nVidia card. Install ATI's drivers first. Then reboot and install nVidia's drivers. You can manage your displays with ATI's CCC. nVidia's control panel will not see ATI's drivers, but ATI's drivers will see nVidia's. The drivers should not interfere with each other. I've done this in XP. Might not work the same in Vista.

Let us know how it works though.
