Hopefully they drive the i7 prices down so It makes it easier for me to gobble one up!

It's ONLY 15% more voltage versus stock. Most of you pump more % voltages into your Penryns and Nehalems and it's hardly suicidal.
It's not. The "suicide" term gets thrown around here like candy.

cant we all just effing admit that the phenom II at 4.2ghz on AIR is NICE (CONSIDERING ITS FRICKING AMD TO BEGIN WITH-- THEIR PROCESSORS DONT EVEN CLOCK WELL TO B EGIN WITH AND HAS HAD A HISTORY OF HAVING HOT PROCESSORS)

jesus christ, im no fan boy as ive had both amd and intel over the years and i'm just happy that AMD has finally made something overclockable. and the fact that the chip will cost cheaper than the i7 is something nice too. we can all admit that the i7 is a nice fast chip, but the phenom II should be nice as well.

I'm fine with people buying Intel chips

What I'm not fine with is intel fanboys calling AMD's stuff worthless just because it isn't the fastest.
They can't seem to understand that there are different price points and people with different budgets
It seems that they think that if a certain company doesn't have the fastest flagship product, all their products are worthless.

The only aspect of the i7 that is still more expensive is the motherboard. But, the prices will go down, and they will get even cheaper when the mainstream boards come out as well.

So in reality, an i7 system is only going to cost you maybe an extra $100 or $150 over a Phenom II system, and that is assuming you do get an expensive $300 motherboard. OMG it's the end of the world!

There are also i7 920s that have been hitting 4.1-4.2ghz stable on air cooling, with voltages that the Phenom II wouldn't even POST at (see the x58/i7 overclocking thread at XS). I can also get a suicide shot at 4.2GHz, and I am using the stock cooler, which currently does 3.8GHz 24/7 prime stable. It can do higher stable, but gets too hot for comfort.

Stop talking crap about the i7 when you don't even know what you're talking about (to everybody). I am not a fanboy and I do admit that AMD has put out a damn good CPU with the Phenom II.
I agree with your post except for the voltage part. Phenom II's stock voltage is what many consider to be max safe OC for intel 45nm (the opinion varies from 1.35-1.4).

The chips are made on completely different processes, in fact probably their most common factors are that they are both made @ 45nm and both contain transistors. If intel chips are superior for running on lower voltages, why have Phenom II's been reported to run so cool?

Don't forget Voltage x Current = Power A chip running higher core volts can still have lower power consumption and heat output as long as it draws proportionally less current.

I've fried one 65nm and one 45nm intel chip on what I considered to be safe voltages, and have never fried an AMD chip. They like the abuse. I ran 1.65v on air on a 6000+ for about three months and that chip is still running on my parents system just fine to this day undervolted @ stock speed. Now THAT is impressive to me.

max voltage for i7 is higher than previous 45nm intel quads. They do run hott when you get a bit of voltage in them though.

i7's are definitely no joke when it comes to heat output. Honestly I don't really care so much about that, I am more worried about how much performance I get compared to how much power gets sucked out of the wall, and we probably won't know which wins that war until release day.
