yep qx9650 was 1.45 and i7 is 1.55... I ran 1.65 volts to my qx9650 hundreds of times... never a problem.

They do put out major major heat though... I "tried" to dump my radiator in a bucket of ice and the lowest temp I got was 10c at 4.61 and it did not help anything at all whatsoever from 30c idle temps... It melted a bucket of ice in about 30 minutes of being on with 1.536 volts. (1 hour total with it on and off every 10 minutes)

The only aspect of the i7 that is still more expensive is the motherboard. But, the prices will go down, and they will get even cheaper when the mainstream boards come out as well.

So in reality, an i7 system is only going to cost you maybe an extra $100 or $150 over a Phenom II system, and that is assuming you do get an expensive $300 motherboard. OMG it's the end of the world!
Yes but. The thing about the Phenom II platform is many people will keep existing parts. That considerably brings down the cost of a Phenom platform. Whereas with i7, you have to buy a new entire platform.

But where Phenom II X4 looks to truly shine is under extreme overclocking as the processor seems to be free of coldbugs, which has enabled overclockers to go over 6GHz. Using dry ice Kaka managed to go to 4.8GHz and says that he is ready to bring out the big guns in the form of liquid nitrogen soon.
So much for tom's hardware eh?

Too bad the Phenom II isn't anywhere close to i7 speeds. Keep wishing for that. Look at the guy who has one on here...he posted some benches...it's right on par with my Q6600.
1. all he did was raise the multiplier
2. its an engineer sample / bad one
3. he got it stable at 4.0 ghz, but he didn't move on from there yet.

Lets not draw judgements to fast just yet. Its getting close, but still not close enough to draw actual conclusions

Thanks and flame on....

Christ why does every phenom II thread go down to insults and mindless bickering. I want phenom to rock. Competition brings down price. But seriously, people calling others idiots for an i7 purchase, and i7 users saying phenom is a worthless cpu is just silly.

Stop the madness.
Meh, i guess this is called AMD fanboynism...

Anyway, its quite fun to see how people keep drawing final conclusions off of this.
The only actually user cpu we've seen tested is the one on the AMD thread. and that one turned out to be a bad one wich is even oc'd on a mobo that dousn't even support the chip yet.

It could aswell turn out alot worse or alot better. Again, we are close, but not close enough.
We now know the CPU can reach a 6GHZ oc with LN, we now know it can reach 4.0Ghz on air

But we cant tell yet how it performs on games, we can't tell how it does with encoding. Simply because there aren't enough benchmarks yet to rely on.

This is how I look at it. some might think otherwise...

And, I just hate those people with an i7 righ that think its nessicary to bash onto this cpu because it dousn't perform as good. We know i7 is better, mind you? we know phenom will never beat i7 and if it does, it will be by an unoticable ammount so it barely matters...

How do you explain the 95% of other Phenom II 3D06 benches which completely contradict his bench results... oh, that's right, you cherrypicked your numbers to support your argument.
You've forgotten to mention, Dual Channel was not enabled in the first benchmarks;

Lol i like how you just *know* it's a dud chip. You guys never cease to amaze me.

How do I explain the benches? They're fake, or inflated...like some people do in their sig rigs.

Fanboy alert. You say that his claims of the cpu being a dud, "amaze me," but yet you make claims that the benches are fake or inflated with no proof whatsoever, just like the guy who said that the chip is a dud. Just dont post in these threads anymore

It seems to be the AMD people stirring up more crap on these boards lately.

4.2 on air's pretty sweet, Shanghai's come a long way from its roots.

Well i had an opinion about why the scores were much higher clock for clock in independent testing. AMD could have paid those guys, you know, just like Intel could pay people to say that i7 scores higher than it really does. Works both ways.

I would say it's MUCH more likely that the scores are fudged with then this guy having a dud chip. Dud chips just don't happen, but fake benches, sure they do. I didn't say they WERE faked...i was just making a statement that they could be.

And please...don't tell me what to do, i have just as much right here to post as you do, and if you don't like what i say, too bad, it's the internet, get over it.
