[NHW] Phenom II X4 hits 4.2GHz on air - Page 9

I would say it's MUCH more likely that the scores are fudged with then this guy having a dud chip. Dud chips just don't happen, but fake benches, sure they do. I didn't say they WERE faked...i was just making a statement that they could be.

And please...don't tell me what to do, i have just as much right here to post as you do, and if you don't like what i say, too bad, it's the internet, get over it.
Oh really? Dud chips don't just happen? Does anybody happen to remember the Q6600's? They used to hit 3.6GHz quite commonly, but now they're lucky to hit 3.2-3.4GHz. Hmm, sounds like dud chips to me. Or how about good old Socket 939 days? The Manchester X2 series comes to mind, where they can only reach roughly 2.6GHz max stable (generally), whereas the Toledo cores were hitting 2.8-3.0GHz. Again, sounds like dud chips to me. So how can you possibly say that dud chips don't just happen? They do quite often in fact. And the guy that has one on OCN, it was proven that it was an early chip. Earlier even than the ones that AMD themselves were benching. So its VERY possible that it is in fact a "dud chip".

Not to mention the fact that he was overclocking on a SB600 motherboard which is KNOWN to not overclock Phenoms very well at all. Sounds like he's actually doing quite well with stabilizing 4.0GHz on a dud chip and a crappy motherboard. Guess what, that's impressive.....whether you like it or not.

This is just an example here. But what's this about AMD's not overclocking? Let's see, 3.27GHz from 1.8GHz stock. That's a near 1.5GHz overclock. Don't believe me, check my sig.

The reason everybody has had hate for AMD has been because Intel wore the crown. And you know what, they may STILL hold the crown. However it looks like AMD may just be making a comeback on the better price/performance ratio products. I say good for them.

And just in case anybody is wondering....I know Intel is currently the best option to buy. If I were to buy a new rig right now, it would be P45 with a Q9650 / e8400. I honestly would. In fact, I even have that as my "dream machine" under newegg wish lists. I'm just stuck on AMD right now because its what I had, and I don't have the money to upgrade. I just figured I'd straighten these few posts out though .

AMD are finding things hard but 70000 employee that mean alot more research and development power

Personally, i would like AMD to come up and give INTEL a challenge, as i think ATI(amd) cards are great , these new chips should do its job too.

you know what these are looking to be a great cpu and when the AM3 motherboards become available and DDR3 will be able to push it some more, this is going to rock Ill be either getting a phenom II or a i7, AMD or Intel I don't care about the brand its about performance and that's about it.

You think all those people really work for R&D? Intel has a massive marketing department compared to AMD's, bigger legal department & lots more lawyers 'n such, way more people in customer service (since they have much larger cutomer base), and they certainly have lot more people employed in technology-wise irrelevant positions (janitors, office clerks and whores, yadda yadda...). Also, AMD mostly outsources their chips while Intel maintains its own facilities, so Intel has significantly more people employed in the chip manufacturing alone.

Is this an advantage to Intel? Hell yes.

But do those employee statistics give an even somewhat accurate idea as to how much more power and potential Intel has over AMD? Hell no!

AMD is capable of making a chip just as good as Intel, it's not like all the janitors, people making the ads and office ladies contributed to R&D. The statistics you posted are largely irrelevant, please stop repeating them already.

AMD has had their own fabs until just very recently
