Here's what I think.

PS3
-blu-ray
-free online browser
-free online play
-high initial cost of ownership
-no good games (please prove me wrong)

XBOX 360
-cheap cost of ownership
-xbox live
-needing to pay for online play(gay)
-a very large slection of games

I am leaning towards the PS3, but it's lack of games are making me think maybe i just need a PC.

360 FTW. Online play is only $50 for an entire year, i hate when people complain about paying i mean come on! $50 for a whole year really isn't much, and a buddy of mine owns a PS3 and a 360 and he says the servers on the PS3 network just suck. And besides they only have a hand full of games that are actually good IMO. Or just get PC!

If you have a PC capable of playing games, just use that. But if you don't, and don't feel like shelling out the money for one, just get a 360. You can get a decent pc for the price of a ps3.

ps3 has resistance, killzone 2(february), little big planet, metal gear solid 4, and gran turismo(whenever polyphony decides to release it).

the amount of good games on the xbox360 is what makes me lean towards it. Even if you get the dreaded RRoD M$ usually takes care of you very quickly. As i type this i have about 24 360 games and about half are exclusive to the system. I say go With the 360 if you want a truly gaming oriented system. Granted from your system spec it looks like you have a decent enough gaming rig. So going with the ps3 for all its media functionality and its gaming pedigree is also a good choice ( especially for bluray lol )

I've answered this question so many times i just quote what ive aleady said:

Decision makers:

360: if you simply want to play lots of games and are therefore willing to pay yearly for your online gaming. It is also more focused upon gaming on its own because it was never built to be a media center. But microsoft are trying to keep up with the PS3 by offering HD-movie downloads via xboxlive. Although it is at an immediate disadvantage as it uses a standard DVD-drive so has no direct high definition movie capability. The 360 has the largest game-catalogue because it's older but PS3 isnt far behind. 95% of all new games on 360 come out on PS3. Infact PS3 has more exclusives either in development or recently released at this moment in time.

PS3: Like movies? have a HDTV? PS3 is an absolute star for you. The PS3 is probably the best media center on the market. Even if you leave out the gaming capability. Blu-ray quality movies on a HDTV is quite something to behold and it is better than almost all standalone blu-ray players on the market. yet its one of the cheapest because it has to be in order to compete against the 360 in sales. Bargain in every sense of the word. Also, as mentioned previously, the PS3 has alot of exclusive games released in 2008/09 and more to come. You rarely find a game that isnt released for PS3 at the moment. Which is very good news for any big gaming fan because you can always look forward to the big titles.

For me, with my preferences and my needs for a console as a media center for blu-ray and next-gen games the PS3 is my first choice. But others needs are right where the 360 is at. You decide

Wow, this is just asking for a flame war. I wonder how long before ElMike and Nemesis come in to back me up...

Most of the 360's Five Star games are on PC. (Gears of War, COD4, Bioshock, Gears 2 [eventually], Left 4 Dead, GTA IV, Halo 3 [eventually]) As far as Blu Ray being the only good thing about a PS3, don't mention the better (7-core) CPU, the built in Card Reader, the built-in Bluetooth, the constant firmware updates that do amazing things (like make the PS3 support multi-layer [beyond 2] Blu Rays when they start to come out, and upgrade the HDMI Version), the free online play, the ability to Fold, the easily upgradeable hard drive, the pretty decent built-in web browser, the Linux compatability... Plus the fact that most of its best games (Little Big Planet, MGS4, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gran Turismo 5 [someday], Tekken, Virtua Fighter) are PS3 exclusives.

No, don't mention those. Just Blu Ray...

I've streaming HD movies and TV shows to my PS3 from my PC for few weeks, and I am convinced once again that PS3 is a better MEDIA CENTER. It plays my Blu-Ray movies and DVDs REALLY REALLY well. I had no idea it could play games too... What a Double Threat!

So if you want a gaming box, get XBOX360. Better controller... Better online gaming... Better game selection...

If you want an inexpensive Media Center PC with Blu Ray capabilities, get a PS3. You can even install Linux on it, and use it as a pretty good simple computer.

I say Xbox 360 because of Xbox Live and the games. Gears of War 2 is out and I can't wait to get it. I also think the graphics are a little better in the games that are out for both platforms, it's debatable but after Game Spot's newest graphics comparsion it's pretty easy to tell.
