GTA 4 Breaks my Back - Need to Upgrade - Page 2

i think you should wait for drivers to get updated
GTA IV is a good game, but in terms of the graphics, i still dont get how it uses so much resources, so it is more related to optimizing the driver.
so just wait for a month, and maybe things will get better :]

Your 2GB RAM on Vista 64 isn't helping. That should be your 1st upgrade.

DONT BUY NEW HARDWARE FOR GTA IV..

not just you!.. Everyone!
everyone who bought this damn game returned it..

WHY?
cuz people even with Quad extreme's at 4ghz+ with 280gtx cards couldnt run this game.
reason: badly optimized.. another reason: rockstar failed epicly.. they might not even tested the game for theirselves.

It's not worth to buy new hardware just for GTAIV..
cuz i can assure you that it won't run well.. no matter what you trow at it.

even with the patch they didnt fix any real problems..

aww man i hate Rockstar games..
they can fly to the moon and establish a cave for themselves to start developing all over.
bunch of scammers.

Trust me it's not your system that is the problem it's the game.

The game is a console import. Meaning it was made and encoded in mind to play smooth on the console. I don't hold any game made out for the console, in mind, in high esteem. One reviewer thought that they must have slipped the game in a PC emulator rather then coding the game for the PC.

Your rig is exactly like my rig and it should run any game, including Crysis and Crysis: Warhead in the upper 30 to 45 fps smooth.

Like Crysis improved in frame rates when it was patched and NVIDIA drivers were optimized, so will GTA IV. Apparently, when GTA IV was released, NVIDIA was already working to optimize their drivers for the game.

Wait a bit, and you'll see that patches for the game and NVIDIA drivers will hopefully reduce or eliminate lag altogether.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the input - I was thinking about hitting up 2 more gigs of ram first too, and I happen to have 2 sticks of 1gb ram that matches my existing 2 gigs of ram - problem is, i've heard bad things about using up all 4 dims with 1 gb ram as opposed to buying 2x2gb. oh well, guess i'll have to scrape together the $$ for 2x2gb.

as far as video cards, i realize that i shouldn't have to upgrade to play this game. crysis, cod4, world in conflict, etc. all run great at max settings; i realize that this GTA4 is a crap port. but, at some point i'm going to have to upgrade, so it might as well be now.

i'm basically trying to decide between the nvidia 260 and 280.
