post #1 of 10

Why when i set my cpu vcore in my cell menu to voltages such as 1.825v or 2v i only see 1.43v or so the highest with all my monitoring programs? I want to get 1.5v so i can try get a stable overclock of 3.4 ghz.

You're going to fry your system at 1.8.

But why when i run prime 95 with these high voltage i barely go over 60c? Even the hardware monitor in the bios never reads more than 1.4v with these high voltage settings in the cell menu

Because it is more than your system can take and the bios are resetting automaticly. Otherwise you would be asking the fire department. I would keep under 1.55 with proper cooling.

So should i bump it up to more than 2v so that i can get 1.5v? I am hoping it doesnt read up 2v after a while

You are adjusting Vcore from BIOS right? If so stay below 1.55Vcore.

The Q6600 (like mine) is rated at max 1.5v. Even though heat is not exceeding 60C for you, you simply should not go over factory recommended volts in the 1.8v or 2.0v range since you will fry your CPU.

What you're experiencing is the VDroop.

I used the 2HB Pencil VDroop Mod which equalled out my Bios and CPUZ volts and I was then able to get stable at 3.2GHz @ VCore 1.41v. I suggest you perform that Mod on your MOBO.

I have the XFX 780i nForce which looks very close to your MSI nForce MOBO, so hopefully things are in the same place;

The 780i pic shows you where to do the VDroop Mod. Start first with 3-4 pencil strokes. Look-up the volts and if your Bios and CPUZ volts are close then add one more stroke and so forth. If your CPUZ VCore goes higher then the Bios VCore, no prob, just wipe the access led off with your finger.

I recommend you do this while your computer is off and the PSU in unplugged. Although, I had the computer on and CPUZ running and I did the Mod "live" and checked the VCore in CPUZ after each pencil stroke.
