I hope to dear god that's a joke, because it's a real pet peeve of mine.
If it is, please feel free to disregard the rant that follows.
No one owns 'an internet'.
You may have an internet connection
, a connection to the internet
, but there is not
more than one internet, you do not
own one, and you do not
effect the entire internet.
- Wrong: "I rebooted my internet." Right: "I rebooted my modem [which I use to connect to the internet]."
- Wrong: "I got my internet today!" Right: "I my internet connection today!"
- Wrong: "My internet is broken!" Right: "My internet connection is faulty."
- Wrong: "You should get an internet!" Right: "You should get an internet connection."
The internet is a network of computers across the planet. You do not own nor control it, no one does.
It is used by many, who make it as a whole. It is both wrong
to talk about 'my internet'
or 'your internet'
as it leads less intelligent people to believe the internet is some black box with an LED flashing on top sat in Big Ben (kudos to those who get the reference).
