When you start having problems with the Windoze kernel it usually means its time to start over. As far as what caused the problem I really couldn't say without having the machine in front of me. Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
Yeah I have no idea what could have caused it either! Yes a full triple unhappy face.
It definatly looks as though i will have to reformat, unless someone else has a suggestion...What is a linux live CD? Free? DL link? Unfortunatly I haven't another drive to backup. Could I partition some space on my drive and save the files (music, pictures, etc...) that I need on there?

Before I go all out and reformat, anyone else have suggestions, theories, or useful information?
Oh crap...I just noticed that my guitar and amp are right next to my computer (1 foot away). Could that have caused my HD to go insane and delete my registry files?

you can get mepis here direct link to the iso ftp://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dist...7.0-rel_32.iso
Basically its an entire Linux operating system that runs off a CD no hard drive involved. Yes it is possible to resize your windows partition and add a new partition at the end of the drive, with Qparted a program included with Mepis. If there is data at the end of drive where you resize that data will be destroyed and possibly the entire partition. Defrag first if you atempt this.

Anything is possible if your amps speakers magnet was really close to your hard drive or You have your computer setup behind a Marshall full stack at 8 or 9

Now you may want to do a automatic repair from the XP disc. That might fix that.

boot to your windows xp disk. Then when it first starts loading the installation. At the bottom of the blue screen itll say hit F2 to enter recovery or repair something or other. That should take you to a menu, and I think its from there where you choose automated recovery. its been a good while since ive used it.

Press F2 to start Automated System Recovery...

For lost files I recommend the R.I.P. (Recovery Is Possible) live CD. It has every tool you could possibly need to rescue files from even a severely damaged hard drive.

Ok...yeah..umm well i was impatient and followed a guide online. It told me to boot from XP press enter (as in set-up windows), and select the repair option. When I did, it seemed to be installing windows, but I got several errors, the only one I can remember was "Can't install driver.cab...blah blah blah" and I got almost 6 others saying the same thing about different files, but I just skipped those figuring it wasn't a huge deal.
I started up my computer after it was done, and all my service packs were gone, windows would only display in 4bit at 800X600, that is until I finally got past firefox and internet explorer from crashing and installed SP1 and replaced the driver.cab in the driver cache folder with the one on the CD.
Now it is displaying fine and everything seems to be working, except windows installer was broken. So I went and googled that problem and from the windows website it told me to replace and/or remove some files in CMD, restart, and download the new windows installer. After doing that, I have two final problems (for now).
1. The windows installer seems to be non-existent (nothing happens when i try to remover or add programs)
2. I'm probably still missing some of the files that didn't get copied during windows repair.

What now fellas??

EDIT: For that RIP deal, when I google it, it seems that all the versions are for linux? Where can I download a windows version?
