Many ignorant people buy them without understanding how much they are paying for the name, thinking all of their money goes into "performance" and quality.

Just because Apple can, does not make it right.

Linux is based on Minix, not unix (and minix is based on a non-unix microkernel)

knowing what i know about computers, i still pay for the macbook pro. its not just the name. i like the stability, i like the way their package system works, i like the unix friendly nature. it works for me, doesn't have to work for everyone. best not to flame based purely on someone "paying more for hardware" though there is a nature of quality control to software.

I don't get how people say Windows is unstable though, I've kept my Vista running 24/7 for about a month now, only turned off so I could put my new RAM in.

Well of course I don't mean everyone... If you like your stuff to look pretty and like the OS, by all means go for it...

Um... No. OS X is definitely copyrighted. It's "automatically" protected by the Berne Copyright Convention.

Gratz on the Case Study Ver. 2; OS X is copyrighted, but the typecast question is on 10.5 specifically I think, though little falls out of the realm of the original jurisdiction, and they'd have to fake the rest. Also I agree with FearMeansControl. There's a certain amount of fallibility in non-unified architecture. Imagine if you built a GPU out of mixxed and mached ATI/nVidia parts? I can pay as much as I want for my compy thanks call me a mungo and I'll take it with pride.

I highly doubt a company in the business as long as Apple would not copyright something as business critical as OS X. Psystar is just reaching desperately.

OS X is Apple's product. They can do whatever the hell they want with it.
