Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan boy. I'll never own a mac but I'd love to see apple work on making their OS work on all PC hardware and go completely software based. They'd probably gain a lot of sales and market if they would do that. I could see dell and other manufacturers picking it up and offer that or windows on their PC's.
You truly don't understand what Apple has done with OSX. The reason people can tout that 'Macs just work' is because they have a limited set of drivers they actually need to worry about in terms of hardware. This is why when you make a Hackintosh, you usually need specific pieces of hardware. The hardware compatibility list is VERY small when compared to Windows. This is a large reason why the install size of Windows Vista is so damn huge, all of the legacy support.

The more hardware drivers you introduce, the more likely you are to see conflicts, which means the more testing you must do, which means the more production costs, which means the end product goes up in price. You would end up seeing OSX being comparative in cost to Vista, there would be people complaining about the lack of support for certain pieces of hardware, there would be MORE blue screens and everyone would just keep complaining.

I don't care to use Mac's at all but really, it is Apples software, they can do with it what they want.

It's just way to expensive for what your buying, when it comes down to it. Look at it like comparing a dell or something to a custom built, we save ourselves money and get a much better computer. I don't in any means ever intend to buy anything with mac os on it but more power to anyone saving money.

I understand they work on very limited hardware specs and that cost them a rather large amount of money. They did it to themselves though. If they gave manufacturer's the option to create drivers, they would IMO see more of a return. I know more than one person that won't buy Mac's simply because of the price. Then again I haven't done the research and I'm just blabbering my opinion on everything. It could be more cost effective for them to overcharge people for limited hardware spec's, than it would be to support more hardware and be more of a competitor to windows. Here's some more blabbering from me,

If someone else can make Mac compatible computers for much much less then great. Apple couldn't have expected people to sit back and not build replica's for half the cost.

I wouldn't compare Apple to a custom pc and Dell. Apple actually makes quality products, and I'm not talking about the design of their computers. The OS, in my opinion, is better then windows. Their build quality is better then 90% better the custom pc's I've seen people make.

Also, I know what you mean by apple should have expected this to happen. They probably did, which is why they are taking legal action. It's their software.

Actually.. Its based off of BSD very heavily, and has many native-unix parts in it. Not this "minix" your talking about..

Just what a user needs, a non-supported system. What happens when something goes wrong? They cant call up Apple tech support. Besides, Psystar is a nobody, and will remain a nobody. CyberPC and Ibuypower are nobodies, even though they sell better specced systems than Dell or HP.

Patents can be registered and viewed online. The website is uspto.gov or something. I hope apple wins. There isn't any reason that they shouldn't.

Apple should win this case. It is there software which is clear as day. They should be able to use it in any manner or form they wanted. If they wanted to just look at it on a screen and not sell it to anyone they have that right.

I do not have a mac so don't call me a fanboy. I just think people can not separate their hate for a company when a issue arises. I am talking a step into the mac world when i graduate. I just want a well built computer that will last years and there is no doubt macs have better craftsmanship then the pc counterparts.

Did you even read the post I quoted? They were talking about if Apple were to team up with Psystar. Thus said user would infact have Apple support.

Read more carefully next time. Lelouch would have.

Also, CyberPC and Ibuypower are nobodys, but who says they sell better systems? go take a look at Dell XPS's....

"Patent" and "Copyright" are two different things. I've never heard of "Patented" software and I doubt there is any patented software available for mainstream?
