Forced upgrade. Suggestions on what to do.

Thread Starter
My computer froze while updating the bios so now my computer won't boot. I'm having trouble returning it since DFI doens't have end user support, but the good news is that I was planning to upgrade in a month or two anyways. So now I need suggestions on what I should do.

Before I get to that I'll list my current parts here, and then update my sig after this post.
e8400 @4ghz
dfi lanparty dk p35 t2rs
gskill 2gb X2
HD 3780x2

My parents have offered to get me a new mobo since I'm a broke art student. If I take them up on that I don't want to spend much more then $100, while I cover the rest. The problem here is that I only have $100 myself. The rest of the money will come from selling the rest of the parts in my current rig.

So lets say that I sell my CPU and GPU for $350 total. That gives me a total of $550-$600 to spend on a new mobo, cpu, and gpu. This opens up the option of buying the core i7, or p2.

What do you guys think I should do?

Apparently, the phenom 2 is supposed to be almost as good as the i7, but cheaper. Not to mention I'd be able to keep my current ram.

I don't think I have the cooling for that kind of speed lol. Right now I rather get some thing to future proof myself, but if that's not possible then I'll keep this in mind. Thanks.

Definitely wait for the Phenom II's.

An i7 build under $600 will be quite difficult, considering you'd have to change out your ram as well. And decent 3x2GB DDR3 aren't cheap nowadays.

keep your E8400 and OC to 4ghz with the Gigabyte EP45 UD3P for $116 after MIR ($136 before), sell your 3870x2 and get a 4870 1GB ($224 after MIR) or GTX260 216sp. you should be set with that for a few years, or you can sell the E8400 and upgrade to the Q9550 for $319.
