Help me pick a new board!

Thread Starter
Ok, its been awhile since I've been AMD, like, socket A while. So i need help. Basically my budget is 200ish, which looks like thats all AMD boards. I want an AMD NB. I was looking at the DFI 790FXB-M2RSH, then i saw something, does it have 2 floppy connectors on it? If so, what are they for (other then power)? I dont feel like getting a new PSU... I only have 1 floppy connector.

Also FX vs GX? Whats better? Whats the difference? FX seems to be more expensive so im guessing they are better? I would like to eventually tri-fire, but i dont know if the budget will let me, so lets at least have 2 PCIe 16x slots. Oh and it MUST be AM3 ready .

AMD I'm coming back!

Now, I'm not recommending this board because it is cheap. That would be foolish. In Phenom II overclocking it holds the worlds 5th highest frequency, and for the Phenom (Agena) overclocking, it was the first board to reach 4GHz. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=466799

The main difference that matters to most enthusiasts about the 790GX & 790FX chipsets is that the 790FX has much better CrossFire performance. (16x16 or 16x8x8 or 8x8x8x8) The 790GX offsets its CrossFire woes (8x8) with the best onboard graphics, and a low price. But since you are interested in a CrossFire configuration and possibly a Triple CrossFire solution, the 790FX will be in your best interest.

Make sure to get a 790FX board with SB750 to allow for the best Phenom overclocking. All of the boards that myself and Shift. mentioned have SB750s and are good overclockers.

Hope that clears the dust on some of your problems

The DFI 790FXB-M2RSH has no option to change NB voltages whcih will definitley affect your overlocks, and I believe the M3A79-T Deluxe is overpriced, I too, have been debating for a long time now, what would be a good Mobo to buy. The Foxconn A-79 seems to have a good price/performance ratio, but I have to see if the overclock that CHRISB17 has achieved is 4 Superpi instances stable Good Luck

Is that Asus seriously brown?

DFI is out. No NB Adjustments, and no RAID 5.

Edit: Looks like the ASUS is going to win. AM3 Support, Four PCIe slots, Firewire, Raid 5, and, to top it off, the ugliest color scheme to come out of them.
